Done a search but didn't find much - my tyres are pretty well stuffed, squared off and getting close to the wear limits. I want to replace with something with loads of grip but won't take too long to warm up given my fairly modest riding style! Any suggestions/experiences please...

The original Dunlop sportmax qualifiers are ok but my preference would be Michelin Pilot Road 4 - superb in the dry and secure if you ride in the wet!

Dunlop Roadsmart 3 are good for me, and whilst your at it, get a spare pair of tyre inner tubes ,the rear one is 5.5in wide & no one keeps them on the shelf except “ Watling tyres” I had a puncture two years ago outside “ Laguna Motorcycles” Maidstone and they couldn’t get one from their suppliers for 4 days, so pop in Watling tyres as it could keep bike off road when you least expect it

Didn’t even consider that the tyres would have tubes but I guess spoked wheels always do...

I had bought a set of tubes to have on hand. I just ordered by the tire sizes. I just checked and It doesn’t say anywhere on the tube or box it came in that it’s 5.5” wide. Hopefully I’m good.

A few weeks ago, I replaced my original tyres at 4,500 miles with Dunlop Roadsmart 1 - they were on special offer at £150/pair as the Roadsmart 3 had just come out - put 500 miles on them now & they seem fine PS I also have a pair of Metzeler innertubes in stock just in case

I'm currently using the Bridgestone Battlax which are wearing nicely with 4k on them. Handling is ok. The stock Dunlop Q3 were far stickier and superior IMHO. Rear was well worn at 7K

Pilot Road 5’s here, sticky enough for me. Only 3500 miles out of originals, 5000 on these so far and some life yet.

Not that bothered about wet performance or even longevity as they will probably be too old before they are worn out. Seems as if the Dunlop qualifier and Michelin pilot power 2ct are popular, ‘sporty’ tyres...

Went with Michelin pilot sport as they were more reasonable that the 2ct. Feel much better than the Dunlop's but they were knackered so not surprising!

Hey guys,

Don’t forget about the Michelin Power RS. Lots of grip, really quick to warm up. A contender for the spirited rider! My tyre of choice for my CR.

Steve

On my last 961, I changed to Michelin Power 3 & was very impressed with them - the RS is the latest development of that line

I guess we all have to take into account our riding styles and the average road surface in our areas. Long Island NY has some pretty decent roads. Some, the dark black butter asphalt and some the light colored cement type. Not too many twisties but a few.
