Hi guys
First off went to a local scramble today pre 68 /modern/sidecars ect and a rather nice Wasp outfit running a Maney Norton got a first, a cracking outfit up against the japs. Right have fitted a pair of Roadriders and am very pleased, no weave, wobble ect and good grip, next, seem to have developed some popping back on the overun have checked header collars their tight, pipe to silencer tight, carbs maybe as I seem to reset tickover ect every bloody fortnight, no choke slides in mine plenty of tickle but pops and bangs when cold no probs after a run, float level OK maybe carbs have had their day, sorry for the ramble, been going through bodges from previous owner.

Knackered carbs can make for a miserable time with a Commando, if yours are the originals, then they will be well past their sell by date.

Put a carbie kit in your carbs, lots of small thing wear out, needles, jets and float needles all wear from vibrations, worn slide the bike will still run its usualy when idling it will play up, I ran my Norton for years with worn out slides, by the time I replace them you could just about turn the slides in the carbies lol, a lot of people make a big thing about worn slides but not many replace their needles or jets or even put a carbie kit in every 2 or 3 years of use, needles vibrate which in tern wears the jets oval and cause a few other problems to your bikes running and having hard carbie mounts don't help, not so bad with rubber mounted carbies.

Living in the UK you'll need the choke slides if the carbs are correctly set up. Popping on over run can be caused by weak tickover mixture.

Thanks guys I've now removed carbs and stripped them the throttle slides are scored quite a bit, so now Do I refurb or just buy a new set, it's probably going to cost 50 or 60 quid to sort them, they are old so maybe I bite the bullet and give RGM a call.
