Just trying to figure out the best way to route the throttle cable from the twist grip. The cable on this 850 points straight down and then is routed along the headstock and spine. This is the setup on both of my Commandos. I really don't like the cable hanging like this and wanted to somehow attach a 90 degree elbow with adjustment to the twist grip to clean it up a bit. I saw a bike pic L.A.B. posted some time ago (looking-for-amal-cable-routing-help-t2152.html) and it has what I'm looking for. I searched the internet for 90* elbows and the closest I came to were some Harley cables or elbows that had a threaded stud. All I want is the elbow as I make my own cables. Can anyone point me in the right direction ??? Thanks

If you put function before cosmetic appearance, you can get throttles intended for competition applications that have roller wheels inside, that take the cable through 90 degrees, which provides a very good cable run.

I'm trying to source same cable guides for my Peel special and have found hi end throttles with guides supplied at the grip side - but not yet for another 90' turn to aim square at slide attachment. I'm still hunting and await good finds others may find first.

Yeah I'm now thinking a complete new throttle grip might be the only answer like in the link Carbonfibre posted. Really didn't want to go that route but if I want that 90* bend that might be my only solution. Maybe L.A.B. might drop in and comment on his. I've got a motorcycle boneyard not too far from me so maybe I'll run over there and get some ideas. Might be able to engineer something...

That's the standard 850 Mk3 upper cable you saw in the photo-like this one. However, the thread on this Mk3 angle fitting is metric (M6 x 1).

I see Venhills sell an angled fitting but again it's M6 (x 0.75) metric.

Nothing to stop you fitting an angled tube to allow a better cable run, but these never seem to result in the same smooth throttle action you get when using a side pull throttle.

Thanks Pelican. I've still to lean how these guide tube get fitted. Seeing a threaded end on he Miki site was helpful. Peel will need two for twice the resistance I guess.

Used to use twin cables from ' twin cable twistgrip ' for smooth action and freedom from sticking .
And to loose the Junction Box , which could stick or jam , with grit or waer. Also to reduce the load
( halve it ) in Ea cable , In Those Bends .

Pre Unit Triumphs had a steel tube at twistgrip bent 90 deg. at about a 2 in. radius .
N.Z. one got unfinished cables , or a set of parts and did them coustom, to save a buck
or due to poor availability . Turning the ends of the core back and hard soldering the m to nipple.

Thanks for the tip. I looked at the Mk3 cable setup using Old Britts exploded views and those cables don't have that 90* bend. Not sure why it isn't shown. I guess the Mk3 throttle twist also had a threaded hole for the elbow?

Well, the bend (it's around 45 degrees not 90 degrees) may not be shown on the Mk3 parts diagram-but it's crtainly there in the 1975 Mk3 brochure.
