Can anyone tell me what socket size I need for a TTI gearbox sprocket nut?

Hi Eddie
Nick posted on Crmc
That it's 2 inch af.
He used a Landrover hub nut box spanner it fits the sprocket nut.
Steve says it's a millimetre to big.
You can get them off of eBay for a couple of quid.

Brilliant!

Thanks Chris.

Nigel, my dedicated TTi sprocket nut box spanner measures just over 51mm, so yes, the nut is imperial 2" across the flats. It is welded to a piece of square tube of a suitable length, meaning it is the full length of my race day tool box!

Don't think I have used it more than twice in 5 years!

I used to have a Land Rover, so, my Land Rover hub nut socket measures over 52mm, really it is around 1.25mm too big, roughly used it will wreck the nut, but with care it is usable.

But really, get the right tool!

I no longer have the Land Rover but I kept the socket, it is bloody heavy so apart from being a doorstop, I made a 52mm hex tool that slips on the alternator shaft, it has a broached keyway and it it held on by the crank nut, and then I use the hub socket to turn the motor on the bench......

Well Steve, I’m all ears if you can point me in the direction of a 2” AF box spanner...

Hmmm.. 2" AF box spanners do seem to be a rarity.
Would a 50mm one do? Opened up with a bit of filing or dremelling.

Dungooglin eh? Nice place, near Emmets Cove if I recall c’rectly?!

Well, I actually have a 52mm LandRover box spanner and a 50mm on order, so one way or t’other I should sort it.

Nevertheless, I’d still like a 2” AF box spanner if anyone knows where I could procure such.

I didn’t have this issue when I first assembled the bike cos I fitted the sprocket to the gearbox whilst in the vice, and used an open ended job. I can’t use this in situ though.

If the 52mm box spanner is a steel tube job and not the massive 1/2" drive socket that I have, and you can get access to a big bearing press, you might be able to close it down a mm which should do it.
