Country flag
I fitted one of these led lights and have been riding to work in the dark in the morning , 60 km back country highway, you need a clean good visor on your helmet because now the road signs glare back at you, people now flash their lights telling you to dip, when I hit them on high beam they get the picture.
Down side that dorky bit that sticks out the front , it creates your own glare that's bloody annoying, chucked a bit of tape on it for now but its really lowering the standard of my bike :? Has anybody seen a lucas type 7'' headlight rim with a little peak or can one be made to fit between the light and rim

If the light is so bright that oncoming traffic is flashing you, then you need to point the headlamp down a bit more.

The life you save may be your own.....

I agree with Rohan. I absolutely hate the new generation of ultra bright headlights coming at me, people think just because they can see better that means it's safer. This is not true. They blind on coming traffic and have very nearly caused me to run over the road into on coming lanes due to being blinded by them. Lower the beam or risk being hit head first which will be your own fault.

Testing station actually set the light height, on beam setter, and said that I had it way to low, they have a very flat cut off and wide beam, their is also no difference in intensity between hi and low just more light in a different position, on coming motorcycle lights are an arse anyway because of the amount of bounce, servos have things called screen wash buckets people should use them.
This light is fully compliant unlike the LED insert bulbs people are fitting.
HEADLIGHT PEAK any one got any ideas

IIHS was just on the tube yesterday bitching that most headlights aren't bright enough, so prepare for things to get worse rather than better.

Some (maybe most?) of the ones that blind oncoming drivers are illegal made in China HID or LED retrofit Kits fitted by thoughtless owners. FWIW Phillips has begun selling legal and fanless LED H4 bulbs but they are VERY expensive so far at $250/pr...

I have one of those. Yes the road signs are a problem. I have to dip my light when approaching a big one. The dips in the road are a problem now also be cause they are so much darker. I fitted 2 LED spots outside my headlamp that shine up and out so I can see the sides of the road in the dark as well now. I think our problem with lighting is that our eyes are not as good.
I remember when I was younger working on cars, my boss allays told me to put more light on the subject. When i became the boss, i had to say, "I know you can see what you are doing, but I cant, so if you want my advice put a bloody light on it."

And on the subject of shit chinese lights. years ago I fitted an H4 lamp to my Commando, and while driving Queen Charlotte drive one night with my wife on the back, this little Jap thing came up behind me and my bike became a shadow in his light beam. Embarrassing.

I fully recommend the Truck Lite or GE Night Hawk by another name. $260.00 NZ at the time but worth it.

My 750 has the best H4 light you can buy and powered through relays. It is still dull compared to the Night Hawk.

From my quickly failing memory, motor cycle head light units differ they should have a shroud inside that covers half of the lamp/bulb.

Our safety people have forgoten that filament bulbs are restricted (UK) to 60 watt to limit brightness.

When I started using LED head mounted torches while out spotlighting possums I had a lot of problems with depth perception ,I couldn't tell how deep holes were in tracks, the led lights cast different shadows, its taken 10 years but its normal use now

I've just gone back to a normal H4 bulb after a brief shot at a Chinese led bulb. The led only produced a light from top half of the reflector and the whole headlight needed tilting up to show a beam down the road. Road signs were too bright and the top of the beam on dip had no clear cut off. Not really good enough for proper night time riding. The problem is, fitting an after market led in a defector that is not designed for it. A properly designed reflector and bulb combo should be better but at a price.

I got the NAPA variant of the trucklite unit. A bit pricey. Nice stuff, though. I do not mind the 3/4" protrusion from the headlight ring so much. It sort of goes with the whole black accent theme.

I also got one of the thing-a-ma-jigs for the tail. Too easy!

Have grown used to the 3/4'' protrusion, its been the fact that the clear part of the protrusion lights up, its a bit like having 60w clock dial lights
Like the thing-a-ma-jigs, have to look at that to. Would like to change my wiring so the snake eyes come on by them selves for day time running not having to light the taillight up as well. I can get to work and check the voltage at the power outlet , light on not running 12.5 v so happy with result

check this:

.

I have the Truck-lit LED with a visor, no Norton on it. It does make it look better. It works well, last July I rode to the INOA Rally in Asheville, NC from the North Shore Of MA with some night riding. I have it on during the day too.
BTW, it works with positive ground, no modifications needed, just plug it in.

Well trucklite user's I can honestly say the headlight peak is almost a must, dorky as f***, but vision from the pilot seat is vastly improved
