Trixie still has a way to go before she's up to what I know she has been and can be sound and smooth wise. As to the smoothness cool night air on thin gloves is more numb sense tingling than the dulled vibes still sensed. So far I notice sweeter spots about 55 and again 75 mph. I ain't diddled the iso's yet but suspect a tad tight at the front as only the RH mirror gives a horizontal smear to following head lights. But this is not point of this post The Sound Is. Yet I suspect Trixie state of tune is part of what I'm sensing in vibes still felt more than could be. Tach ain't working so no rpm figures yet. Trix has 19T as standard issue.

Commando's must be the most mysterious breed short of the Spragthrope kennel so realize many variables involved. What is annoying me is Trixie has more a loud BlaTT sound at speed rather than the sweeter duller BlapP/burbble I crave. I've just put on the Commando Specialties so so peashooters. So So in that they flair out inside of smooth tapper to the header and they barely have any louvers to matter much. I liked the sound of the old shot up silencers a bit better but they still had annoying BlaTT after I installed new anodized slides which allowed a return to idle and engine drag on down shits. Trixie ain't no racer or even a past Peel power house but strains the seat fabric and base pan stronger and stronger after indicated 75-80 mph. So I'm not interested in more power tuning just more pleasant tuning and do not think its the muffler itself.

Prior on over lean worn slides she would suddenly loose power on WOT @ 85 and careful throttle allowed creeping up to 90 then just bogged out misfiring. Yet her power up and cruise sound was rather pleasant. Now with the tighter and richer #3 slides and 4 groove needles in mid notch I've no more power desires [on untamed isolastics] but think she might be too rich now and adding to the BlaTT's. Ain't plug chopped yet but plugs are dark and sooty for clean burn fuels.

Timing is what I suspect most, though light showed rather stable 28' on both points with indexed marks before the Empire rally. What I don't know is which way to time her other than proven trial and error. What do others find on sound effects from timing and mixture? I have sense the Blatt state is not as powerful or smooth than the BLapP-burble state.

The sound of the pipes doesn't have a lot to do with proper timing and/or mixture, it has more to do with baffle design. Straight-through (absorbtion type) are blatty-er than the burble you get from true diverted-path baffles.

My peashooters sound good at low speed but up around 4K they start to sound blatty too. I don't remember them being like that, but I had a bunch of crappy exhausts too in it's earlier life. Mine are from Walridge and Mike told me they are UK made. They are very smooth unlike the originals which had junky welds that were chromed over. I haven't really looked inside to see how they are made, but I know they are straight through, but don't know if the baffles stick out into the flow. My originals had baffles that stuck out and also had a block around the widest part that blocked off probably 70-80%. At least these don't have any issues with the carbs like the Hookers I had or some others.
