A lazy dazy mechanic I know asks if one could remove the DS crankcase and leave the cam, oil pump drive chain drive inplace with crank and cam sticking out? As I seem to need to part cases too often I might as well make a simple crank pusher but making sure it'd really be a short cut. Just need to re-seal after ring wear blow by event.

yes, I did it 39 years ago with my 750 to stop oil leaks and it worked. If I had known the timing side ball bearing would fail 35 years later I might have replaced the mains as well. Never leaked oil for those 35 years though, and I used Pliobond, which we used to glue chainsaw 1/2's together.

Alrighty then Dereck you've not misled me so far. I removed the ignition and cover before I thot to ask. Nothing else wrong with Trixie but dang headlight mount o rings but electrical tape still holding silent so can ignore till its too cold to want to ride - even with wind screen and bar shields.

if you can split the cases and re-glue them together, then doing the fork trees with "new O Rings " should be a piece of piss for you. Just do it. Prove you can. Know what to expect is half the battle.

Ugh, I no longer need manuals to go completely through a Combat. I have been through Trixies forks a couple times from deer strike bends to sitting up after piston or rod bolt failure so springs rusted to stanchions about immobilizing forks. But you're right this is good down time with great riding conditions and 1000's of bikers around d/t Bike Blues BBQ event to spend spare time on finding special after market square profile 0-rings to feel better about my mechanical ability to finish proper fork install. Will have to miss Lake of the Pines ride too after checking with Wes he's too overwhelmed with rural life repairs/recoveries plus winter preps like me to make it either. I had a bit of a row with wife on being overwhelmed with major break downs and her special projects to fret about being able to keep our life in paradise going.

The extra frosting on labor cake is Trixie stayed clean as long as I stayed below 65 and didn't give much throttle, but why have a Combat in wonderland if riding like a timid parading Harley. Half my will to wrench again is making promises here in public I want to keep so feel somewhat as competent as others diving right in.

Good on yer mate. What's this about living in Paradise though. You don't live here. This is Commando Paradise down here in Godzone.

Thankgoodness there more cycling heavens than po-dunk Arkansas but sure is one of them and this is its peak season. Wes and I tend to avoid The Pig Trail, which is more like 60 miles long for rather better routes with less traffic. Got distracted from Trixie but SuVee filled in today at rates one the mirrors blew back...

The Pig Trail Leads To Eureka Springs!

Arkansas Highway 23, known affectionately as The Pig Trail by motorists for
decades because of its meandering path through some of the most beautiful
scenery in America, was recently voted the second best motorcycle trip in
America by the voters at USA Today's Top Ten site.

Eureka Springs, literally the Pig Trail's head, is visited by thousands of
motorcycle riders every year Here is what Top Ten had to say about the Pig Trail (and Eureka Springs):

According to our expert Bill Belei "the northwestern portion of Arkansas
is a mother load of fantastic motorcycle roads, and the Pig Trail is at the
top of the heap." This 19-mile stretch of Arkansas 23 passes through a
curvy tunnel of foliage in the Boston and Ozark Mountains, and the
charming Victorian town of Eureka Springs is closeby, with loads of
restaurants, shops and accommodations.

Bikes Blues BBQ, the largest gathering in USA is about to hit but already more biker of all sorts than cars, some like the Ford Corba club cluttering our little square. I can't attend d/t 24 hr of required class hours in another city this weekend. Wes may '71 Commando into city to the Ozark Vintage Motorcycle pavilion.
