I'm going to replace the layshaft bearings on my '74 Daytona. I have the factory manual, and have had my Commando gearbox apart several times. Is there anything that I should be looking for in this transmission ? Any tips, tricks, things to be careful with ?

Thanks

Greg

Hi Greg,
I've never worked on a T100 but I've had my T120 gearbox plenty of times and I believe they are similar. There's nothing too complicated in there, just be sure to inspect the gears well before reusing them. The only (slightly) tricky part can be indexing the cam plate correctly, but provided you've got the correct parts and follow the manual it's pretty straightforward.

74 should have two braces welded across the selector cam-plate ,to stop tracks spreading (with heavy hooved riders) Check its flat still .
Index plunger spring weakness results in 'throwing out ' of gear . so if its done that , stretch or replace .
dont use Jap Bearings . It may have a rejection complex !! .replace bushes in cases with needle rollers .
