Hi, I'm about to ditch my Boyer to get a Tri Spark. Ease of starting is the motive. Got a few questions, please.

How long has the current model been out and have there been any problems?

Does anyone have a copy of the curve?

Which coils work well, or not?

Thanks

Hi - I beleive that the Tri-Spark "Classic-Twin" has been around for about two years. I fitted one to my 920 Commando about 18 months ago and it has been perfect. I have the standard Lucas 6V coils fitted and the bike runs well (unlike other Tri-Spark system this system uses the 'wasted-spark' principle). One tip - when fitting you'll probably intially use the built-in static-timing LED, this works fine (my bike started first kick after fitting) however don't assume that the timing is correct at this stage as when I subsequently checked mine with a strobe light I found that the timing was 5 degrees out.

I have no idea what the timing-curve looks like but I believe that it is 'better' than the old B-B curve.

The anti kickback feature and ease of starting suggest a proprietary advance curve that's not likely to be published. Trade secrets, ya know.

I do know that you set dynamic timing at 4000 rpm v.s. 5000 for the Boyer, so I assume it tops out sooner.

The best feature for me is the "idle stabilization".. dunno how they do it, but it sure does work.

DIdn't someone measure and post the curves on BritBike?
