Hey everyone just starting to do a bit of research into possibly letting some of my Japanese classics go for another British bike, been weighing up getting a desert sled style bike of some sort an keep ending up back at the TR6's

Was there any stand out years or changes on them or stand out models of tr6?

Thanks in advance

Tom

69 had hardened cams and followers, plus improved crankcase breathing and automatic primary chain lube level, and the best brake up front. 70 Has the removeable front engine mount plates.

I like unit bikes better, 66-68 are very nice, 65 feels "old"...

If you want to ride it, stick to unit construction, stronger, faster, better handling.

Generally speaking (as you’re talking about pre OIF) the later they are the better they got.

IMHO, go for ‘68 or later, they have the TLS front brake, which is really surprisingly good (Far superior to the later TLS fitted to the OIF bikes). And the shuttle valve forks. Again, surprisingly good.

IIRC 68 and 69 came in the stunning Triumph candy apple red colour (I’ve got a 68 T120 in this colour and it’s sex on wheels), whereas the 70s came in a rather unsexy green.

Anyone who doesn’t think these look the dogs bollox is either lying, or mentally unhinged, or both...

I am a Norton rider and I prefer Blue.
That and the USA T-120 r in Maroon and silver are among the finest eye pleasing mechanical creations ever..

Awesome Bogus an Michael :) I've been looking at the 1960 pre unit bonnie to as an option with the blue on blue colourway my 2010 Bonnie T100 is one of the 'sixty' limited edition bikes in that colourway. Do fancy a TR6C first I think though :)

Lot to be said for keeping the weight down, actually . Stuff the ' Std. Restored trip .

Tr6c's Desert Sleds

the 60 / 62 twin tube swing-arm frames fine at the ton, hands off . On gravel roads . Unlike a kwickersiki . Dual way damped shocks 7 a kidney belt wouldnt harm though .

A P. U. ll go ina A 65 or oil toob frame too , thoitdhelp to lengthen the cradle in the latter case .
More straightforward to throw new tubes from sterring head gussets etc to lower rear X member .
U S spec tank matches P.U. & Trident teardrop . But a SEAMED slim line'd look kool ( & on Triples ) .

you get the odd butchered chopper Pre Unit T 120 R on evilbay . So a cut & shut dirt road hum dinger could be got , with the reworking. Rather than fake authentic bodge job .

Just needs the fine CYCLE thread throgh bolts clamping down securely , with no forign matter like PAINT in the joints to letem start moving .
K 70s or the old pirrelli licurish were THE flat track tyres before the wide goodyears & motorsickle slicks arrived .

I presume you mean the unit T100C? They have their fans for sure. They’re lighter than the big twins and those motors, especially the late ones, are really strong and rev like crazy. An ex stroker fan like yourself might well gel with one.

Personally I prefer the broader power band and low end torque offered by the bigger twins. Not saying they’re ‘better’ jus’ different.

'71 TR6 internals all new, chassis all new, big tank, right shift 5 speed
Sorry about double post.
