In my reading about various motorcycles, a maximum torque of 60 somethings seems to be a good value. With all you guys now using dynos, can any of you tell me what a good torque reading for an 850 Commando engine might be, at what revs the max commonly occurs. I don't know what units are commonly used for torque these days - it might be foot pounds or kilogram metres.
I sometimes seen magazine articles which claim that a flat torque curve is good, but I think with my bike with the 2 into 1 exhaust system there is a maximum which is still fairly high in the rev range. What ever happens - the close ratio gearbox gives much faster acceleration than wide ratio, even when the overall gearing is very high.
Torque is twisting power of the crankshaft and the heavy crank affects it.
