hi all
the top yoke fitted to my mk2 is the later mk3 one with the 2 screw holes for the instrument panel
ive found an earlier one in th box of spares that came with it and was wondering if the bottom yokes are the same or do i need to change them both

other strange thing is the lock on the one fitted (mk3) is about 5 mm out of line so even if i had a key it wouldnt go in there !
i assume it also had the wrong lock barrel fitted fromthe earlier yoke?

thanks
matt

Can you be certain the lower yoke is the Mk3 type? The Mk3 lower yoke has a hole over to the left side for the Mk3 hydraulic pipe fitting. My Mk3's lower yoke has an additional hole on the left side which is unused-so two holes, the outer one of which has a recessed machined face for the hydraulic fitting.

Are all the yokes marked 'ANG' (850) on the underside?

The Mk3 lock and also the lock lug on the frame are different and I would guess that is the reason why the Mk3 yoke and lock does not work with the Mk2 frame?

The Mk3 Neiman steering lock is different to the pre-Mk3 lock, and as far as I know they are not interchangeable.

there is an additional hole on the bottom of the yoke fitted at the moment on the left hand side
the full lock lugs also look ever so slightly thicker so i guess its

i was going to leave it in situ as its clean and in good condition and to save pulling the whole front end off
also the spare one i have is rusty and has been painted black

it's....???

Just to clarify, the Mk3 lower yoke has two holes on the left side, the outer is occupied by the hydraulic fitting. (I think the second hole is meant to be used as a steering damper location?)

thats the same
so im hoping its ok to keep the mk3 one there and use the top one frome a mk2?

i will change the other one at a later date , just wanted to get this one on and a working lock , ordering one on monday

I just checked the 850 Mk2 supplement, apparently there were two top yokes available, one which had the Mk3 Neiman style 065448 steering lock, but the lock or the particular type of 065538 yoke for the Nieman lock does not appear to be listed for the Mk2 model on the Andover Norton website.

Anyone got a Mk2 with a Neiman steering lock (which fits into the underside of the yoke and is retained by a roll pin)?

well its looking like there is a very slight difference in the 2 types
as im struggling to get the forks back up in the top one :(

a simple job of sorting out the lock is turning into a front end strip by the look of it

I remember somebody once said the Mk3 yoke geometry was different, (however I don't recall anyone else saying that) but if it is true, then that could be why the forks won't fit back in if you have refitted the old top yoke?

well just in case anyone else tries it..
the mk3 bottom yoke is slightly differnet and you have to change them as a pair

i still dont know why the wrong ones were fitted though when the correct ones were in a box of parts that came with the bike

next question, what fork oil should i put in and how much?

ive got the haynes manual should i just stick to standard spec and amount?

thanks
matt

850 MK2 (ANG) top and bottom yokes are identical geometry to MK3. Its the 750 ones to avoid.
