Ok, first question....

Now I've been trolling the search function and I've found most of my answers but I just want to clarify and make sure when it comes to Oil.

Now I already have the type and the many pages on that discussion..but I have a question in regards to the oil cap/integrated dipstick. My 1968 Fastback does not have the original cap with the dipstick so I'm trying to sort out where my "L" and "H" are. I've see other posts that say it's 3 5/8" inches...I just want to confirm that...AND see if I can get an idea where those two notches are on the dipstick since I can't seem to find a good picture of one. Also, a link to where you can purchase one WITH a dipstick might just be an easier answer too.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think the early Fastback caps had dipsticks?

On a 1968 Fastback I think you are supposed to check the oil level using the transparent tube at the front of the oil tank?

Decal 060935

Ok....well that would make sense since all the decals are gone....

Thanks LAB

As long as you have 2-3 inches from the bottom of the oil tank you're ok anyway. An old long dead Norton mechanic would tell us that we all overfilled the oil tank. if we filled it to the top of the dip stick.

For 750 dipstix the normal proper level is about 1/2" Below the reach of the dipstx.
So if oil is showing on the dipstix the excess will find its own way back to normal soon enough. Same with primary, do not fill to the over flow plug, just fill till oil touches the bottom of the links of the bottom chain run, or excess will soon find its natural level, but not after 1st dosing the clutch plates.

No contest with the board. Everyone wants to help. As for L.A.B., well, his Norton knowledge base is, at times, unreal. My theory is he isn't real. He is a CRAY Xt5 Jerry Doe had laying around.

Hahhaah...well thanks guys. I really feel better inching into ownership with a knowledge base like this.
