This will not apply to 99.9% of the existing members, I'm sure, but I know new and potential owners and future forum membes will read this site.

We have had a couple of incidents recently from owners at their wits end, and this would tend to be a sign of the times.

It is frustrating if you buy a MK3 crank and fit it to your pre MK3 Commando and then find that the primary drive you have does not fit.

Equally, the MK3 crankcases, will fit in the cradle of an pre MK3 850, though it is a real pain to find that the Inner chaincase you have will not fit, along with a chain of follow on issues.

Both bikes were nearing completion of assembly. One case the owner thought they were the same thing and the other just did not realise.

The MK3 850 Commando has many differences to the pre MK3 Commando, please do not assume they are the same. If this gets the message out there then it will no doubt help me and others no end.

Thanks,

In fact it is impossible to get this far because way before you should find that the primary drive you have does not fit you will notice your pre MK3 crankcases can’t be closed as the MK3 crankshaft is 0.120” wider at the main bearings than all pre MK3 crankshafts.

Agreed, Even worse, I would be seriously concerned with that mix and match and what was actually being tried or had been done. It astonishing what is out there and what some get to work or sell unscrupulously. The photo below is typical of many things seen - this was from a NOVA bike, if you look at the drill holes underside of the crown you can actually see the piston was used.

I read GM had issues selling Chevy Nova's in South America because "No va" means "Doesn't move" in Portuguese.

IIRC they shared parts across a common platform, not unlike Commando's, see, still on topic.

No va is more or less "not go" in Spanish and it is a false urban legend when attributed to poor foreign sales for Nova. Yenko had them for sale as COPO models and they had plenty of va.

I grew up in Puerto Rico and Novas were quite popular. Having said that, people joked about no-va, just as people in the US joke about Ford meaning fix or repair daily.

I imagine y'all don't know what PONTIAC stands for. If you do that's great, you must be an old timer. If not, I'm not explaining. I can't recall anyone ever having a slogan for CHEVY.
