As the riding season nears here in Tn. and all the fluids and hoses that needed replaced have been. A look at the tires revealed a lower tread level than I would like. Does anyone know if Metzeler makes a tire for my 73-850. My wife just bought two for her Harley, Me 880 Marathon front and rear. If so, does anyone have a company name and phone number that offers them. Also , if anyone is currently running them, their experience. Thanks, Norton 1973

Yep, where I got my Avon RoadRyders from J * P Harley supply with a good discount with a membership, if ya spend enough its worth it. Call and ask em to get the size ya want if not already in stock for front tires of big twins. Otherwise online search or in magazine ads can supply at good prices.

I don't think that Metzler has anything remotely recent if you have a 19" rear wheel.

I ran ME33 / ME99 at one time. They were OK. The 'Comp K' front was very grippy and neutral but the ME99 on the back very quickly got white liney. Judging by my experience with Bee-Emms, the more modern ME55 is even worse for following irregularities.

I wouldn't run them again given a free choice.

I think Avon and Bridgestone are the two most popular Commando choices for modern tires, but I could be wrong. I'm running Avon AM26's and love them.

110x18" likely best all around for least sense of extra mass but better mileage than the 100x19 factory size. I mostly run 120x18" to run a bit lower air for softer ride and more grip on loose stuff plus better mileage, but I can feel a tad less response to throttle or to lean and steer. Best bang for the mileage bux is the 120x18"

I run a 130/90/18" tire on a WM3 rim. The big tire just clears the swing arm and chain by about 3/8" all around. Even a Cheng Shin tire lasts about five times as long as TT100's and has a rated load of around 800 lbs at 36 psi.

Two Commandos

Tim I'm going to try 130 on WM3 rim, can you point me to what tire fits and who ya get em at? I've a decade old race tire on now to test fit and use up on break in but thought its out of production.

Steve

JC Whitney has Cheng Shin, Shinko, Kenda, IRC and Bridgestone tires in that size--ranging from about $70 to $110 delivered--I think I've got a Maxxis as well--a sales associate via the chat window can help you navigate--good luck

don't think bridgestones come in 19" (the battleaxes are great tires though)

Just put a 110 X 90 X 18 Metzeler Lasertec on.
Never got on with Avons, just took a Battleaxe off, was better than a Roadrunner, but I want to try something diiferent.
Loved the Metzeler on my BMW for handling.
Because I have never liked any Avon, I decided not to try the new Roadriders, although they might be good.

Love to meet you on a track day, you would be suprised what a KS can do, provided you can ride fast.

I know about 1200 size BMW's as played hard with one with an edger pilot and got passed in a short open about 90 mph, never able to catch back up on Ms Peel. Looking forward to rematches with more power to weight ratio.
