Tire PSI seating how much is enough?

If one has trouble getting a tire to pop out fully centered in rim,
about how much hi pressure would ya think worth trying before
giving up or blowing up?

Today's inflation got up to 48 lb and still creeping and popping
but chickened out, as this is an old tire that I was able to
seal side wall cracks by solvent smeared butyl rubber.

i know the mis-match of big tire on narrow rim may be final
show stopper but seek some common sense threshold to know
when its a lost cause not just my fumbling fault.

I will go to 60 PSI if it needs it. Never beyond that, and it usually doesn't take that much.

Ok thanks, that helps me decide next time how long to grit teeth to
see what happens.
I do a fair number of bike tires but rarely run into really tough ones
so wanted to ask while I can still type or see with both eyes
and stand to pp.

This one is 130 on WM3, but the first time is seated fine in 4 pops
and showed even indicator rim all around. Last 4 times ain't
been able to repeat the seat.

I've had 120 rear de-rim d/t this so won't ride it till centered.

I was having trouble getting my tires to pop out on my rims when I remounted recently. So I put rubber friendly grease (the same junk I use on my iso's) on the inside of the shoulder and they popped right out.

For this tire i did the first mount perfect seated first time w/o nothing
but sun warmed tire. Fooled me good to sucker me into relief sense.
Next used glycerin a couple times, then
last time the soapy water I use to find leaks.
My current conclusion with my extra practice and slick helpers,
expect more failures.

I gave up today and patched a garden hose successfully to help lift
my mechanical esteem.

found tire cracks all sealed : )

but found 12 spokes bubbling : (

Hey Russ, forgot to mention I snagged some tire mount lube from a
tire shop, so your mention of it will be my clue to escalate to that on
5th on/off ritual.

I have had to go as high as 70psi on Behr rims with huge safety bead on the rim. Probably would have helped to have some lube. My Morris Mags need 60PSI to seat the bead.

Very encouraging Will, to read your courage to inflate 70# till pops in place
and not blow up in face. Don't recognize the tires you list but
assume worse boogers than this 130 Avon cracked race tire.
Encouraging to see one side of my tire has centered on rim
properly by almost 50 PSI, will grit teeth grid loin and try
again on sun warmed tire shop soap lubed beads.

I'm gonna have to shop or make better tire tools, don't like
the blunt thick travel irons nor the too sharp screw drivers.
Also got to figure out a way to protect Al rim from my fumbles.

I bounce the wheel-tire sometimes if it's being stubborn and it helps encourage the bead to move.
They sell plastic rim covers to protect the rims when you're using spoons. I haven't used them but they might help you keep your rims nice.

Oh yes I'm a seasoned tire bouncer and habitual tire shamppo'r
to find leaks on bikes, mowers, cars, truck hand cart and wheel barrow.

Interesting additional tire massaging trick to me was to press side
walls in on high side to bulge tire more centered at opposite rim
area. Bouncing slamming had nil effect wasted efforts this tire.

I was told this 130 would work on WM3 rim and I saw it did once,
so now it a self testing contest to see if I ever can again or
give up with tail between spokes and get 120 size and cut
my effort frustration losses.

I'm going tubeless like my SV650 and cars for fast fixes.
Once tar cord plugged must not spin tire much of sucks
plug out I've found. Here's SV rear with two light careful
run plugs and new 2 cord in one wide hole plug I on purpose
rooster'd around a few miles on it but got home before
pulling the drain plugs out.

Car tires can take even more plugs to get some mileage left.
