They may have built 200 engines, but for sure nothing like that number of bikes. We still have debates going over whether they ever delivered a Commando with a short stroke engine, other than the show model. I remember one Commando Roadster with a short stroke engine showing up here at a dealer in the US, but it turned out the dealer had installed it, not the factory. It has been verified that a few ( 3 or 4?) of the Thruxton Club Racers were sold, and they had the short stroke engines. But they were race only, and not street legal. The engines, on the other hand, were available, and could be ordered through dealers. I remember there being a really good stock of short stroke spares available at the NVT facility in Duarte (Calfironia) back in the '70s, before it was shut down. They mostly ended up in road race and flat track bikes.

OMG. Looks like the vinyl in a booth in a bar I used to frequent in a seedier part of town when I was at Uni...

Uh, one of those 'Ran great when parked in 2002' except that the primary drive blowed up at that time as well as the gearbox is in pieces.
Many folks on this site could probably put it back together with minimal trouble, but then you are left with a non-matching numbers bike that still has a lot of non-stock chassis parts.

I wouldn't turn it down as a Christmas present though!

Looks like a project that made it so far and then someone discovered the engine had to come back out and gave up.
