Well, check that off the list.

I was coming home and going pretty slow (30mph) and was mentally distracted. I realized the car in front of me was stopped. I grabbed the front brake and just before I could come to a full stop I hit the rear bumper. I couldn't have been doing more than 5 mph when I hit. I think I popped out of the seat, came off the right side and laid the bike down. The weight of the bike threw me back and I did a nice little roll. Plenty of practice crashing in trials. I had a big backpack on so I never hit anything but that and maybe my knee.

I got up and saw gas coming from the cap (I had just filled it up) so I got it up and to the side of the road. The only damage to the Prius was a mark in the dirt on the bumper from the tire. But as I hit it so slow there was nothing else. The lady was a little rattled, she was busy looking at the back of her car. She pointed to some scraps and said they were from the handlebars, I pointed out they were large round marks cause by her bicycle wheels (there was a bike rack on the back of the car)

She didn't want insurance info just exchange phone numbers.

I got the bike restarted and rode home, I was less than 5 miles away. I think they say a majority of accidents happen within 5 miles. Forks are a little twisted, just need to loosen then and tweak them back, but from what I can see there's no visible damage anywhere. Lucky this time...

Good to hear you are OK.

A women driver and in a prius, man you got off easy........ :D

I'd really like to crack a yellow bike joke here, but I know the pain you must be feeling.

Not good. I thought the Prius would be a write off and the Norton would escape unscathed. Not good Dave. Hope all goes well. I'd be looking at the triple clamps. The standard cast iron ones bend pretty easily. Just think, if you were on a modern with fairings and acres of plastic, it would be a write off. Seriously.

Well, the knee has a little scrape. Ironically I was actually coming home from an Urgent Care clinic so they could look at my thumb (different incident, not bike related). So I know my tetanus shot is up to date.

sorry to hear of this swoosh, glad you're ok... on the other hand, a good reminder to us all pay attention!!, as motorcycles can be very unforgiving... if you were an old f**k like me, you'd be in the ER!

If I had ended up in the ER my wife would have came down and killed me.

Always glad to hear when someone walks away from an accident. I had a damn close call last month. I was riding my Velo to a large European bike night in downtown Lincoln. Only about six miles from home. I just had crossed a major intersection, and was starting to get the Velo wound up a bit. Then, just after looking away for a split second, a whole row of cars ahead of me jammed on their brakes. As I looked back up at the barge in front of me, I realized I was going to hit it, no way I could get stopped. But, there happened to be an empty parking place to the left, and I managed to squeeze over just enough to get stopped in time. This was a one way street, and I was in the far LH lane. If anyone would have been parked there, I would have rammed this Explorer. They say close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades and dancing, but damn, that one got to me. It just drives home the point, that you have to be on your toes at all time. Again, glad you walked away, and were able to ride home.

yep

me too (see my ouch! exhaust help thread)

guy in front of me on group ride decided NOT to merge
and my sticky clutch caught just at the wrong time
probably, like you, 5 MPH

I clipped his pedal with my exhaust header and we both went down

I felt like an absolute goof and offered to pay for his repair
(his tallight broke)
but, gentleman that he was he shook it off and said
"accident's happen."

Next time we ride, his lunch and the apres beer is on me.

Alrighty swooheroo road wisdom lands one home the easy way this time. Don't be so sure about how undamaged the fork tubes might be, but just reseting them may work pretty decent even with some minor tweaked components. You know how it felt long enough to sense an issue if it don't next time out w/o getting too comfortable or distracted. We all have and do. Yogi's teach that we go where our attention is aimed, so do the race schools. Sometimes after these slap down one may find electrical gremlins of shaken connections. Also the spinal shock of neck muscle reflex and the emotional let down can have delayed swelling over next few days. Face it motorcycles are known as death machines for a reason and going down it part of the hobby. No video I guess : (

I ask is this a good day to die every time now. One example was divided barrier hwy event, oncoming car hit a deer to toss it onto C'do ride who got knocked off then run over dead. Better than family suffering a long cancer death I guess.
Sorry but this list ain't yet littered with missing handles like some others I'm on.

Safe Journeys,

Yep these things happen Swoosh, glad you'r OK.
You 'd get plenty of practise at falling off,.. owning a Bultaco.
Seriously, check your head stem bolt, I broke one once when I cannoned into the back of a 250YZ at the starting gate in a motocross.
Found out at the first jump.
STAY AWAY FROM CARS.
AC.

Take it as a warning. Be careful and pay attention.

Glad you're OK.

I did do a nice trials roll coming off the bike. "Practiced" that many times with the Bultaco. Ain't the first bike I'll came off, won't be the last.

Sorry to hear about this, Dave. Sounds like you and the bike will both be ok, so that's good. I've almost done that several times. Gotta stay focused, all the time. Take your eyes off the cars in front just for a second and bad things can happen. I've been lucky.

You got off easy Dave. Fork tubes are cheap compared to funerals.
I bought my 74 850 about 37 year ago from my best friend for 1k.
It was a cafe Dunstall with a big aluminium tank and one of those big fat tires in the back. Man, was this this fast.
Anyway the day after I bought it I was polishing her up, changing fluids and the like for my first real ride.
My "best friend" came over to my house and asked if he could ride it one last time. Against my better judgement I said yes and he took it out to the country, got into a speed wobble and wrecked it!
The forks were twisted, the tank was smashed, pegs, shifter, gauge cups all damaged.
He shows up 2 hrs later with it in the back of a truck and when I saw it I nearly cried.
When he sold me this bike it had all the spare parts I needed to restore it to it's stock appearance including spare fork tubes.
I got it back together in a week and was riding.
He gave me $500 back.
He's still my best friend, I've known him since I was 5.
A couple of years after that day he bought another 850, a cafe and sold it to me 4 years later for $500 and a 250 Honda Elsinor I had.
I still have both bikes.
He has never ridden either one of them again.
I post some pic tomorrow
