So, the circlip behind the clutch is done and I am reassembling. I am having a real hard time getting the engine sprocket to go on the tapered, keyed shaft.
I am doing it complete with chain and clutch as directed in the manual, any hints?

Try loosening off the primary chain tension by moving the gearbox forward, have the key on the taper pointing towards the rear.

What kommando said plus.............. make sure the crescent key top is parallel with the taper on the crankshaft. It helps to gently rotate the engine sprocket a very little bit when offering it up to the crankshaft in order to "feel" the key engaging with the key way in the sprocket.

The front edge of the key was ever so slightly taller. All done, buttoned up and test ride done. Thank you for the replys.

A lot of effort to get to that little circlip!

Did you put it on face the correct direction? burr side toward the gearbox? :P

Yes ,Sir. Sharp edge to gearbox.

I should probably order another just to have on the shelf.
