I just attempted to put tank gold stickers on my 73 black tank and ended up peeling them back off. One side had a few puckers but the other had some major wrinkles. I got them from Steadfast Cycles and the backing paper seemed a little stiff. Anyone have a source that they like and also any hints on installing them? They didn't come with any instructions so I just peeled off the carrier paper and stuck them on.
I know some people use stencils and paint them on. It's too late for that as the tank has been clear coated, color sanded and polished and installed on the bike. I'm not doing anything to it involving paint again.

put a drop of dish soap liquid in squirt bottle o fwater and mist tank and then try the soapy water gives some fudge factor and then dab it off with paper towels

Water with a drop of washing up liquid, wet the tank with the solution where the decal is going and place the decal over the top, then use a bondo spreader to flatten the decal out from the centre and the solution and any air will be squeezed out. If there are any large air/solution bubbles, prick the decal with pin and force the air/liquid out the hole.

I used their decals and put them under the clear, but you're right about it being tricky. I couldn't get it right at first, so I handed them to the wife.... She got them right on with no problems... only had to prick them in 2 spots to rid it of small bubbles. The girls fare much better with tedium than men, and generally have a better eye and more delicate touch for detail. Just my take on things.

Also if yours are the same as mine the liquid/soap was useless because of the adhesive on them.

There are lots of YouTube videos on the subject. You need to start with what kind they are. Water Slide is different from the Vinyl I've used. If you have the kind that are a sandwich of cover, decal, backing you don't want water, IMHO. You remove the cover, place, rub down thoroughly working form the center out so there are no bubbles or creases, then carefully remove the backing.

With vinyl, the water with a drop of dish soap is fine. Use a rubber squeege, a plastic putty spreader/'knife' or even a credit card to work the vinyl flat and bubble free. As the water wicks out from under, the adhesive will set overnight.
