I have a problem with my tacho, the needle is on the wrong side of the stop sitting about the 8500 mark without the engine running.
When started the needle moves as expected until it reaches the stop at 0, then obviously it goes no further.
I'm sure that if the needle was on the right side of the stop to start with, it would work just fine.
I was quoted $250 to repair, due to the bezel arrangement ....
Anyone know a quick and simple way to get the needle over the stop ? I considered drilling a tiny hole in the glass and hooking it with a piece or wire. I reconsidered !
Hopefully someone can help !!!

$250 to repair? Mate your'e being conned. Any auto instrument shop will have a bezel prise off jig and roll on jig. Its a 10 minute job and a new bezel.

Actually Mate, I'm not being conned . Which is why I am seeking the wisdom of the Norton masses. If I was being conned I would have paid $250.

Thanks Peter, Tried the magnet thing, sadly no luck.

Hi Combat Col

I had my taco and speedo completely rebuilt by Otto's instruments in Brisbane last year, costed a bit but the speedo had met its fate in a fire 30years ago so was pretty damaged, got them back and a few days later the speedo needle fell off, took it bact to John at Otto's and he rolled off the bezel and removed the glass to refit the needle, took him 20 minets all up to fix, so I can't see how it would cost $250 to do that unless they gave you a price to fully rebuild your speedo.

Eurotrash sells the bezel, glass, gaskets and new screws for around $36. If you take the bezel off you will need a new one. You can press them on by hand, I've done it and it looks fine as long as you don't see the bottom which is covered up by the holder. http://www.eurojamb.com/smiths-repair-k ... -1296.html

I had a thread where I explained how to do it, maybe a year or so ago. Search my posts for Smiths.
