My tacho has just failed so off for repair.
I have a spare tacho and speedo off what is now my race bike, the tacho fits inside the pod with a recess to allow for the bezel, the speedo has the bezel pressed onto the outside of the pod.
Are these just different model pods or was there a change along the way?
Regards Mike

not really understanding you there, but the only difference in the alloy gauge holders is the 850's are a bit taller. the bore s the same.
The gauges themselves all used the same steel housing and chrome bezel. the underneath side of the bezel sits on top of the alloy
gauge holder.

The gauge bezel will be sitting on top of the pod and fairly flush on both OD's.

Is a Mk3 pod different ?

To clarify, the speedo has the chrome bezel swaged onto the pod as the top of the pod is slightly tapered, the tacho has the bezel swaged onto the tacho body and sits in a recess on the top outside lip of the pod.
You can remove the tacho from the pod, not so the speedo unless you remove the bezel.
Thats how it came when I bought it although who knows what went on before me.
Regards Mike

Thanks Les, Ill check with both pods and get a pic with the difference
Mine is supposed to be a mid '73 850 although one of the pods has a twisted mounting, probably from a fall over in a previous life. So maybe the other one with the swaged bezel is from an earlier model
I have a couple of spares off the race bike to compare.
Regards Mike

I would take a guess that somebody has simply pressed a replacement bezel onto the pod instead of crimping it to the instrument case.

Could well be, and if there is no recess in the top of the pod for a crimped bezel like on the tacho, could the pod just be an oddity?

I don't understand what you mean by a recess in the pod?
The bezels are normally crimped to the speedo/tacho cases and simply rest against the top of the pod(s).

I use a cable driven magnetic Suzuki RG250 tacho (NOT RGV - which is electronic) . It is the correct ratio and the gearbox on the rear is reversible by undoing two screws . The tacho comes complete with the flexible 'O'- ring mount as used on Italian race bikes in the 50s and 60s, which exactly fits the mount on genuine Seeley frames. And if you can find one, they are cheap.

LAB , no recess in the top of the pod, my mistake, a slight one in the bottom for the protection boot
