Swinging Arm Spindle

I am about to remove the swinging arm spindle from my 72 Fastback. The engine/gearbox cradle has been separated from the frame. What is perplexing me is there does not appear to be a bolt securing the spindle to the cradle. Every parts manual I have seen shows a bolt at the top of the cradle tube. Is that possible or am I going blind? I don't want to try and extract the spindle without making sure it is not pinned in some fashion to the cradle.
 
Check the rear of the tube for the MK3 cotter pins, my Combat has these no doubt as a replacement for a worn tube.
 
Presumably, the hole for the missing bolt is there, and there's nothing else (Kegler mod. or other bolts) attached to the cradle tube?

Dug around the cradle tube and found a hole filled with hardened grease.

Maybe the bolt that pins the spindle to the tube sheared off?
 
Maybe it is simply not lined up (threaded hole in the spindle.

Or maybe just vibrated out or was never inserted. Since you have it apart you should have little trouble driving it out. There is not much you can hurt if there is a stub of thread left behind other than a small score on the inside of the tube. No big deal.

If possibe, press it through rather than hammer on the hard pin.
