Since the search function isn´t working at the moment I put two questions here. This is concerning a Pazon sure fire, can you use a twin coil, 12V with a primary resistance of 3 Ohms that is a "single fire" model? And how "big" battery do you need, I have very little electrics going on besides the ignition. Would a 4 Ah be enough if the charging and everything else is ok?

"For low compression ratio engines (less than 9:1), two 12 volt coils connected in series can be used, but we strongly recommend running with two 6 volt coils connected in series or one 12 volt dual output coil with a primary resistance of 3 to 4.5 ohms."

I have also fitted the 3ohm dual output coil from Pazon, to match the sure fire EI

What does “RTFT” mean?

If that was supposed to be a sarcastic comment regarding your first reply then all it said when I read it was "They say yes".

The Pazon link and the quote weren't there!

Thanks a lot people, but what about the "single fire" or "dual fire" layout? What´s that about?

If you keep to two coils (std set up) each coil fires to one cylinder.. or single fire
The dual fire is single coil that has two HT lead from it, On this arrangement the system is known as a waisted spark system as it fires on both plugs at the same time.

99.9% of all EI units are a wasted spark regardless of coil setups be it 2 original type or the twin tower single.

Pazon, Boyer and others are wasted spark regardless of 2 single coils or 1 dual coil. They are wasted as they send a single signal every 360 degrees to either both coils or the single dual. A sequential ignition sends 2 separate signals to 2 alternate outputs and each separate signal is every 720 degrees apart but at an alternate 360 degrees to the other signal, 2 sets of points do this and the very early Trisparks did.

Yes I find I have to post, then come back and edit, to paste anything into a post. Otherwise the post sometimes disappears.

What are the current market options if one wanted a dedicated spark system (ie NOT a wasted spark)?

Only one I'm aware of is the new Tri Spark with programmable advance curves and external electronics box but it's $$$

Thanks.
I used an early version of those on a triple. Frankly I found no benefit at all in playing around with the advance curve!

IMHO, so long as these old skool motors have correct mixture and BIG FAT SPARK, they’re not really fussy about minor changes to advance curves etc.

I'd say that about covers it. The only thing I worry about beyond that is a hole in the piston. Skinned shins from kickback
I can mostly ignore.
