I had a few hours this morning to get a ride in. I headed East into the mouth of the Columbia Gorge.

Sunday Ride in the Gorge

Sunday Ride in the Gorge

Sandy River

Looking down the Gorge. Vista House overlook is in the distance on the first ridge.

From the Vista House looking East.

At the Vista House looking North into Washington State. That's the area I rode last weekend up by Mt. St. Helens.

After a few blasts down the freeway I'm looking forward to getting the fairing on.

Lovely Sunday drive all the better on a Commando. I like the eased sense of risking taking vs the exposure to new sights and people most when on a Commando than other 2 tired road appliances. Thanks for sharing the fixes.

Agree Hoby. Went to a local music festival last night and camped over. Good music and lots of bikes as MotoGuzzis club there about 40 bikes. Commando drew more attention...

Nice pics Dave looks like fun!
will you show us how to make those maps sometime?

Google Maps. Click Directions. Put in your start and finish (I put in my zip code) then click on the route to move it to your actual route. Then I take a screenshot. Takes a little practice.

It was about 60 miles or so. After that long my ass starts to hurt. I'm sure I have everyone's sympathy…

One of these days, the Peaks of Otter, but that's almost an overnight, better get my sleeping bag ready or some bucks $$.

Ah Man that is one of my purposes on Commando. Private musical-hippie-blue grass rock and roll people hold mini Woodstocks 60-80 miles from my home, along famous scenic routes, to get high and throb all night long for a weekend long party. I get sneered at for large luggage rake but it makes for expanded scope of Commando adventure. Deer and Elk abound between me and these places and had too many encounters returning after 2 am so staying over is wiser.

Thanks for the google map instructions, will try it someday fairly soon.

Yes it looks like a great place to live, and ride swoosh.
I have a standard seat, and my arse gets sore.
It might be a bit better when you get the smaller bars on, but then you'r arms will ache.
Doesn't matter though, it's still good fun.
A Geography question,... Does the river form part of the border, between U.S and Canada.
I should have gone back to your last post/ride, the one with the long bridge. Is that the border.?
What happens when you cross over.. Boom gate ? Armed guards ? Strip search ?
AC.

Strip search? Only if you ask really nice.

The Columbia is the fourth largest river in the US (by volume) and separates Oregon from Washington. As much as Oregonians would love to put up a wall, it would more likely be put on the southern border with California. Sadly so many Californians have invaded it would be futile now.

Thus endeth the lesson.

Looks like great scenery. Got any pictures without that banana in the middle.

Yup, a ton. But this is not a tourist forum and LAB will kick me off if I post any pictures without a Norton in them.

We're very fortunate to live in this part of the world, Dave. We just love living in Anacortes.

I decided, when we first moved to the NW from the UK, that riding on the "wrong" side of the road was too dangerous and I haven't owned a bike since then (1968). We still tour around, but in a 32' Class A motorhome at 8 mpg.

Nice place to ride Swoosh, traveled through there a few times as a kid. Seems to me I know more Californians that moved to Washington ( Widby island) then down your way but I know what you mean. Although I bet we get more people "invaiding" Calif in a week then you do in a year! Keep posting pictures, maybe they will see how nice it is up there & leave. I need more room on the freeways!

I used to live on Ms Peel for a couple years, daily commutes and errands to 1000 mile away rally and ride rough paths in between. I'm over 6 ft tall too and have ridden the factory brick seats and the Corbon sexy seats and unpadded race seat and they all suck for any length of time in the saddle to me. Best seat for the long haul hours in saddle is the King/Queen seat or the cushy Brit Bike seats that are like over stuffed cafe profile. That with taller than Western bars allows me to trace out on Peel into only eye balls and grin shoved into the wind. Factory Combat Trixie is a pain to ride after a couple hundred miles in a joy ride. But she is what she is so will put up with that because I've got comfy non-cafe Ms Peel brewing in my living room.

BTW I looked into making Google maps and see they require a registration, is that what you have to produce these?

No, you don't actually have to save the map, you just create the route and then grab a screenshot. Unless you want to save your route for reference.

I need to ride up and visit you one of these days. Hopefully soon.

It's worth a try.

Ok every body laugh at the Australian.
I thought you were going to Vanvouver CANADA.
I need a bigger map please.

Gees' AC you're letting the side down.
It's Vancouver with a "c". That is in Canadia.
They have Moose, Mounties, Lumberjacks and Snow.
None of which were evident in SD's pictures.
