Stripped thread - Sump

On my 1974 850 Commando the engine sump drain plug has a 3/8 x 16 UNC thread. The sump drain bolt has a circular depression on its head which identifies it as a Unified thread. The Unified thread helicoil is probably a lot easier to find as well. I hope this is of some help.

Oops I've done it again....tightening the plug with forefigner the dreaded feeling of sudden no resistance :?

http://www.chronos.ltd.uk/acatalog/info_HEL3816B.html for £17 notes should do the trick :D

Hi scunjee.
Do you use a copper washer with the sump plug? and it still drips? If so, I suggest changing to a Dowty type to seal the hole.
Replace the nearest case screw with a 50mm long one and you will have somewhere to wire the sump screw to.
Also, try tightening using your little finger as your forefinger is way too powerful! :D
Ta.
