so my bike had a crack at breaking my ankle again today and i think i've narrowed it down to my battery not getting enough juice. The coil is an Accel 140403s Harley Super Coil. it was put on by the guy that modified the bike and apparently if it doenst get enough volts it will "prespark" which caused my kickback. before it kicked back i was getting just under 9v across the battery.. i think the charging unit may be faulty or blown or something but thats another issue.. does anybody know more about this coil? im struggling to find info.

heres a quick bit of video of her

What ignition are you running ?. Coils rarely cause issues like this.

apparently its a Boyer Brandsen Electronic Ignition. the plugs were giving a weak yellow spark.

It (Boyer) needs full voltage, charge/replace the battery, start, run, repair charging system as needed

Yep, the coil itself can't cause such a problem - it just "sparks" when the ignition system tells it to do so. The boyers are notorious for such behavior w/low voltage.

ahh thanks for clearing that up, it makes a whole lot of sense. so whats considered "low voltage" for a boyer? there was an incident the other day with someone connecting my battery reversed so im hoping that nothing got fried :x Typmpanium solid-state regulator/rectifier is what has been hooked up. All this work was done before i got the bike so i have no idea about any of the subtleties of this stuff.. where should i start looking for "cooked" components?

Old original boyer is about 10v. Some of the modern ignitions will get down to 7v or so. Put a voltmeter across yr battery and start the bike. It should climb to about 14.2v at about 3000. If its doing that chances are yr battery is buggered.

Let us know the result

Have you tried starting it with a good/charged battery?

The analog boyer that was on my bike when I bought it in '06 was shaky at anything less than 12V. Maybe later models where better at that. I removed it immediately after purchasing the bike, threw it in trash can, and installed oem points/AAU which provided better performance under all conditions, from starting to WOT. Kept the points until '11 when I installed a TriSpark. Trispark seems to be ok down to 9V.
