The following video is of a senate (read House of Lords) speech by Jacqui Lambie (from Tasmania) - definitely not one of the politicians I admire.
But I would have to admit, in my mind at least, this would have to be one of her finest moments.
I am not a xenophobe but have significant concern over the apparent lack of respect the leader(s) of China apparently have for the rest of the world.
Not the shortest video - and she is not the most eloquent - but the vibe is there.
Cheers

A while ago I was working for a large pharma company who had serious issues in China. Very expensive, highly certified, medical grade stainless steel bought there was FAKE. I am not exaggerating when I say that people died because of this.

I remember talking to a senior guy at this firm (not Chinese) and saying how I just not did understand the mentality there of selling rubbish. It will only harm the sellers long term reputation and future sales I said. He explained I was looking at this through a Western lens. The Chinese people concerned do not worry about long term brand image etc he said. Their view is that the world is a huge market place, Set something up, make cash whilst you can, ignore the negative connotations, and when you are forced to shutdown, simply move onto the next thing. Repeat.

And it’s not only a disregard for the rest of the world, they have an utter disregard for their own too (the medical grade stainless was for a Chinese operation to supply the Chinese market).

Trouble is, they’re in the midst of an Uber pure, and rather unpleasant, capitalist growth trajectory, the kind we had in the industrial revolution, or the US had during the development of the USA, rules are lacks and morals are less so. It will take several generations before the moral side of the culture catches up with, and counterbalances this greed.

a good reason to be very wary of Chinese-made bikes, I would conclude!!

A fine bit of rhetoric... albeit embarrassingly delivered (and to such an enraptured audience, too!) Bottom line is without this Covid episode most people wouldn't give a flying f*ck about China or their working practices (or America's trading practices, which I assume she alludes to)
We chose to walk through the farmyard, and now we've got sh*t on the carpet.. So who's to blame?? Yes, we've all got hindsight as to what a great country we once were etc. etc., but that's long gone, sadly. Read the headlines: Public transport expands today, IF the unions approve.... Schools go back.... subject to union co-operation. So who runs the country? No wonder the Chinese make hay while the sun shines..
So can we: 'educate the natives?' That's failed miserably in the past, no? We're still expected to pay for the sins of our fathers, grandfathers, great grandfathers et al in the eyes of some...
Yes... it's a mess... will we learn anything from it? I very much doubt that change will come (was it not our Boris pushing through the Chinese 5G deal against strong advice to the contrary) Money will always talk the loudest, from big business to the pensioners weekly shop, morals are fine if you can afford to live by them...

She has the guts to say the truth!
Hope this gets the air time it deserves
Our market is flooded with things made in china and if you look carefully they aren’t that much cheaper than better quality things made here.
Trouble is there isn’t much made here anymore
I’ll personally hunt for goods made anywhere but prc

Your negativity makes those journalists look like rank amateurs.

It appears you need an optorectomy - a very delicate operation to remove your eyeball from your arsehole - apparently it improves your shitty outlook on life!

I'm applauding what she says.. But the world is too big for seismic shifts regardless of well meaning idealism.
I don't know what you used to post your comment here, or what technology you're using to keep up to date with this fiasco... but I'd hazard a guess there's far eastern components involved somewhere...
Will you be binning them all??

Sadly we're being banned from burning wood soon... And no new builds with gas. So when we're 'all electric' they'll really have us by the balls :-(
