Well after about 10K miles my sprag blew, so am officially spragged. I know I purchased this sprag from someone here on the forum, but cannot remember who. I need a new one, so where is best place to get it?
This happened when about to go for a News Years day run. I think its possible I pressed start button by a mistake when it was running. My head was not very well after New Years Eve lol

Got to love it. Less than an hour and just a few clicks and the sprag is on the way...
This is why I am building another commando. Need a back up.

Hello Jerry,
That looks exactly like mine.
Are you going to replace the inner and outer as well as the sprag bearing?
Did the sprag dent the inner and outer like mine did?
Regards
Graeme

Hi Graeme,

I am only replacing the sprag. The rest of it looks good still. It was all new about 10k miles ago.

Cheers

Glad you got a new one coming. It was a bad day for you to get "Spragged". We had a great ride that day.

When the sprag is broken, Can t'he Commando still be used and finish a several days trip?

Yes, it can still be used if i put it back together, but then i have to take it to bits again to put the new one in. Its a pain. I do have a 14 sprag, but everyone says an 18 is better, so i ordered an 18...

Alright no need to rub it in.. I paid 75 pounds from RGM
Haha

I have been ordering my parts from RGM for my 750 and just got another batch on the way with the sprag. I hope to be done with this 750 build soon. I have a feeling that it will be more fun than the mk3... Mk3 is fun though too, but i always worry about all that crapola in the primary.

Jerry

Think I was so unlucky as you and did the same thing last summer.
Now I have secured me so I can do it again.
The controlling Power to the solinoid have I picked up from the current flowing to the green light indicating for the neutral gear.
Then it is impossible to activate the solinoid when driving

Thats a good idea. I am going to put a cover and hinge over my button I think.

Last summer I ordered my replacement sprag bearing from VXB thinking I may get the same OEM bearing at a distributors price. When it arrived I was disappointed to find a sprag bearing that was less robust looking than the one coming out of the bike. The metal cages were less beefy. Same with the retaining ring. A dry fit convinced me that it would work; but, after sleeping on it, I decided to purchase the Andover Norton part from Old Britts. The Andover sprag was identical to the one coming out (both 14 "shoes"). I gladly paid the extra bucks for the piece of mind it gave me.

I'm using the VXB and so far, so good. If I remember, the VXB has 18 v 14 and the cage naturally is lighter to allow more to be squeezed into the same area. My feeling is that the larger bearing area provided by additional sprags might increase the performance but who knows?

The cage, I believe, only serves to hold the sprags in position and the spring should only hold the lightest of tension.

There was another thread here that, if I remember, called into question the hardness of the other parts.

I received my new Andover sprag and it has a stronger cage than the last one, which I think was VXB. I am glad I spent the extra $30

Here is a comparison as best I can get it:
