Hi,

I just aquired a 75 Norton Cammando mk 3 and all the documentation I read says there should be a removeable filter close to the rear brake master cylinder. I have looked from all sides and under and cannot see one.
The oil pipe from the tank goes to the crankcase and then straight back to the tank - nothing in between.

This bike is in quite good original condition so was it made without the spin off filter or are they an option to be added by the owner ?

Newbe first posting :? relying on your combined wisdom with greatful thanks.

Regards,
Sean

OK First thing , don't run the bike (if it does run)
Check again. Look under the box section of the swinging arm and the filter should be poking out from between the engine/gearbox cradle. If it isn't there , is the mounting block there, this is a round approx 3" diameter mounting block assembly with a central threaded port (that the filter screws on to)
The return oil pipe from the crankcase should go to a spigot on the filter mounting block and another pipe from the adjacent spigot goes to the oil tank.
If you find it's all ok you can use a few filters, I use Fram PH2839, because they are black and blend in.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions but there is nothing in the spot described.

The oil feed goes from the tank to the cranckcase and then back. I followed the pipes to confrim that there is no external filter fitted.

So do you suggest I get one of the kits available and fit it before using the bike properly ?

Sean

It is not mandatory, but it is an advisable addition. Put it near the top of your list.

Hi, welcome. It's always possible it was removed, goodness only knows why. Can you find the two mounting holes where it was?

+1 on no start until 100% sure the mystery is solved. Oil lines could be swapped, suck air, etc.

If you look at the bottom left of the pic. You can see where the filter assembly is to be mounted along with the locking tab plate.

Spin-Off Oil Filter missing ?

Modern Dtrgent Oils carry the Contaminants . The filter element removes them . If Fitted . otherwise they circulate .

Hi,

Thanks for the pic Staticmoves. This is exactly what I can see.
The two mounting holes are there so I will see about getting a filter kit before next riding season.

Thanks for the input from everyone - an extra pleasure of owning a Norton .
