Hi all,

I have tried to find the thread that leads to the topic below without success.

A few years ago there was a topic on the forum which also included pics, about rebuilding a speedo(odometer) gearbox. by removing the rivets and tapping threads in their place so screws could be used instead.
Then the speedo gearbox could be dismantled easily in the future for thorough inspection, cleaning and rebuilding.

Does anyone please have the link for this topic/ thread ?

Thanks

Thanks AntriMan,

But your link is not the one I was after.

Nortarly,
Thanks too mate! You have found the post that I was looking for!

Thanks

Good to know, but I'm not ready to take it apart right now.
That grease zerk is not like we have in US. Is there a special grease gun nozzle that you Brits use? Mine just blows grease out the side and doesn't penetrate at all.

My grease gun came with a pointed nozzle that you can just push into the hole & apply grease. I tried googling for the nozzle only & didn't find much. Some place in China will sell you 2,000 minimum order

Are parts available at all? More than one I have on hand
need retaining plates renewed. I think they get trapped
and buggered upon axle assembly by careless owners.

I have NEVER seen parts for the gear box as it was ALWAYS sold as an assembly. either you will have to make what you need or try to find one that has the part you need.

For a few, ok many years I had a British grease gun off ebay that fit the Norton zerks but as only needed for the brake pivot and speedo drive, I sold it off and just apply grease by hand when those parts are off in hand. Once the rivets get loose then its almost too late to recover the wollowed holes with the wear on parts slack inside. There is a Harley version I've seen in catalogs that is the right size but i don't know the ratio so ain't tried one yet. Here's closest example found on line but hard copy book has a dozen of em with the dimensions displayed.
