spare wires?

'74 MKII
Hi gents,

I'm nearing the end of what's been a 2 year project for me. It's been a long time since I was messing with the wire harness and for the most part, I believe evrything is where it's supposed to be ( from the pics I was taking during disassembly).

Does that ground wire just get attached to the top engine mount somewhere?

In the other shot with the battery terminal wires, I have that brown and blue wire with the male end. I don't have a clue what that was for.

Could any of you please suggest what that wire might be?

Thanks for taking a look.

You usually see the red grounded at the head steady (it doesn't reach much further than that!). It wouldn't hurt to run an extra ground strap from where you decide to put it to the engine case somewhere, just to make sure the ground is solid. As for the other wire...could it possibly be purple and brown? That would most likely be the horn. If it is blue and brown then maybe the power point on the ride side of the battery case? Other than that it should be going to capacitors, rectifiers, etc...are those items all stock?

Bike looks good!

Russ

Thanks Russ!

Yes it is a blue and brown wire. I have the connections going to the capacitor and the rectifier , they are the flat connector type.
This one is a bullet type connector, and I can't even see what it might reach.
What is the power point on the right side of the battery case that you refer to?

I'm a sever layman ( that's why it is a 2 year project) so be gentle please !

That brown/blue with the bullet is probably the one shown on the wiring diagram going to the police blue lamp flasher unit?

If you check your wiring diagram, you should see there is a brown/blue (NU) wire running from the 2MC capacitor to the Interpol electrical equipment connector.

i see a brown/blue on my 73, it's in a group of 3 wires, that one, a purple black, and a red, all going to the horn, but the brown/blue is unused on mine. Don't think mine has original horn, so i would say either horn, or police like someone mentioned. That ground on mine was also on the headsteady, in the center allen

Yes ! ! ! ! ! It would reach that horn wire connector which is a 3 wire connector with just the puple (and black) and the red .

So I guess it just terminates there for future siren .

You guys have done it again ! ! ! !

Thanks so much

By the way, as someone who just tore my first norton apart to refurbish, i'm jealous of your clean looking bike!

It sure didn't start that way ! I wish I had taken pictures of the rust and grit before I started the project.
That was before I knew there was a forum to show a before and after.

By the way, I ended up putting the red wire on that hex bolt on the head steady just at the top of my forefinger in the picture.

Do you think that's OK?

I'm not so sure. The intended purpose (I think) is to ensure a good ground connection at the head as a return path for the spark plugs. On my bike the wire was connected to one of the bolts on a spindle cover.
