Once again sorry, but I don´t get this; can I add pics in a post by just copy and paste? Or must they be linked from somewhere?

If you mean an image that's already on the Internet, then it's often possible to copy and paste the image url or 'link' (and then tag it with the 'img' tags so it embeds in your message)? If you mean copy & paste from your computer, then no.
What is it you trying to do?

I got an email from Photobucket yesterday that said that if I wanted to use it, I would need to upgrade my account. I haven't gone there but I suspect it is simply another money grab. A while back, I found a different site for image hosting - can't remember what it was.

Hardly a surprise that somebody wants to be paid for their service.
However now a lot of our threads have lost their pix .
Well only children thought that the internet would be "free" forever.
Such is life....

All forums around the world are having to deal with the Photobucket change of policy.

Individuals need to find another free service, who will probably change their policy in a few years time when the subscriber base gets big enough.

I agree Photobucket are entitled to change some of their 'free' services to paid for if they want but it was the way they did it with very little notice which has caused individuals and administrators of forums lots of grief!!

Of course, buried in the fine print that NOBODY reads when signing up for the ad-based free services, is a clause stating they can at any time lock you out, wipe out years of photos, and charge ransom.

It's worse than that, they own your pictures or at least can use the data for their own financial gain. With image recognition they can tell where you've been on holiday, what type of car/motorbike you own, who you're friends are etc. etc. Valuable information they can sell to advertisers, once this is cross-referenced with other data from more free services i.e. Facebook, Twitter etc, etc, they can get a very detailed profile of who you are, they will eventually know more about you than you know yourself!!!

It's the way of the future, no point in worrying about it, the best advice I heard years ago given to a group of students by a recruitment agency 'don't put any information/pictures about yourself you wouldn't be comfortable showing to your granny'!!

I'm going to lock myself in my bunker which has no internet access, has a built in faraday cage & wear my tinfoil hat, just in case

Paranoia is a mindset - if you have a victim's mindset, you will be a victim. What would stop anyone from setting up their own website and using it as a means of embedding photos into posts on this forum ?

VIP members can already do so. https://dev2host.com/support/accessNorton.php

Yes thats the way to go I was a VIP member for awhile but money become tight for me but am now recovering and will become a VIP member again soon to give Jerry surrport for this great site, I never did like PB and only put up my bike pics, I am not a fan of Facebook watching people put their who life on it and having big brother watching as well taking in what they have been up to.

Become a VIP member and give the money grabbers the flick and you know it will help to keep this great site running and hopefuly I be there soon to surrport this great site again.

I Wonder if we all paid say $10.00 per year to be on this site,it would cover the expenses needed to set up an equivalent to FB but restricted to Access Norton only [ but that would no need our 10 year old grand children to show us what to do all the time ]. First timers might be offered the first 3 months free maybe.

Facebook can be very bad, if there is any domestic violence going on amongst your friends. It helps morons target their victims.

You answered my question, which means I´ll go VIP or get somewhere else than PB to link my own pics from.

Try Postimage: https://postimages.org/

Or use the new Postimage 'Add image to post' option (in blue, below left of the message reply box).

This new option, is that just for answering posts, or new posts as well? Haven´t seen that before. I guess the pics still have to be posted somewhere on the www?

New or old, you should see the "Add image to post" below any message box, so if you wish, you can go back and edit your Photobucket images, at least for the time being as the 24 hour time limit on message editing will probably be introduced again sometime in the future.

Yes, they will be hosted at: https://postimages.org/

Ok, thanks a lot!

Using 'Add image...' will embed a thumbnail image in your message which can be clicked to enlarge.

If you want to show a 'full-size' image in your message (preferably not more than the 800 x 600 option) upload to postimage, >Share, copy the 'Hotlink for forums' option and paste that into your message.

One slightly odd thing I've noticed is that I must be logged OUT of Postimage for 'Add image' to work.
