I was out today for a ride and stopped to take a couple of photos..... Thought I would Share. Hope you don't mind..... This is also an experiment of sorts, as I have never attempted to post photos this way before. I bought this bike new in March or April 1973. Took it out of the crate, put it together, filled it with fluids and kickstarted life into it for the first time. Was in storage as other things took priority in my life....... we all know how that goes. The picture of it in black was the day that it left for the restoration, the ramp and van just visable in the back left of the photo.

Now she is back and we are together again. Read this for some more of the story:

If you go down to the bottom "IMG code" in photobucket, click on that, it will copy and then paste it to your post, the pictures show up in the post instead of having to go to photobucket to see them.

Nice bike.

Well done bike. She looks like a nice ride. My first Norton was a 70 Commando in fireflake blue. Bought it in London brand new for $900. Drove it on the continent and across the USA without grief of any kind. Well, the starter pawl did shear half way through , but I fixed it in Houston.

That is a really well turned out bike!
There is one picture of a bike with a black tank.
Is that the before shot when you got it?

The last photo was the best, and could have been a bit better with flash.

The other shots were over-lit, you need to play with your camer's exposure settings and set it to the "sun" icon (if it has one) for bright light shots.

Nice! The color looks pretty close to the original. I noticed you used the silver tank and side cover logos. Did your bike have silver originally? Mine came with gold outlined in black. They are not individual diecut like the 850 style, but rather the entire transfer is one piece. They are vinyl and not a water-transfer. I replaced the side cover logos in the late '70's but all I could get were solid gold die-cut. My tank logos are original. I have also picked up a set of NOS side cover logos in the original style, but haven't installed them.

Steve,
Nice looking bike, I love the fire-flake blue. I doubt if I have seen that color in person in over thirty years. In you opinion is the color of the blue closer to the dark blue in last photo or the lighter blue of the other photos?

Absolutely, very very nice. The Silver on Blue looks good, and matching beer carrier.
Looks like a nice spot to ride too, is that a river, or an inlet near the coast.?
Any fish.

Great history and delicious vintage beauty to view and know its in the right place to enjoy together a long time.

She came out of the crate with SIlver tank and side cover lettering and Gold Norton logo on the back of the seat. Not long, as in about ten days or so, after I bought her, I had the logos removed and a "Lace" over lay done in white. I remember it cost me $30. The Silver logos are as near as I remember being what was there when new. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of those days.

Color changes depending on light. One of the reasons I really do like it. In direct sunlight, the color is exactly like what you see in the first couple of pics.

That water in the back ground is the "Intracoastal Waterway", it runs from noth eastern USA to Texas..... Was built in the 1930's so that commercial shipping would not have to go off shore and expose itself to Submarines and other unfriendly things, that include nasty weather with names. That part of the waterway is on the inland side of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, less than 1/2 mile to the right of the photo is the beach.

Fish? LOL!!! Directly behind where the pic was taken is the Ocean Isle Beach FIshing Center....... HQ for the Local SKA tournaments, local charters and other fishing activities.

I turned my Fireflake Blue to Black, wish I hadn't now.
Great looking bike, man.

I did the same black thing too and hated it ever since. Now it's back to blue.

I like the black/gold I'm going with on my bike, but I have dreams of going midnight purple with silver lettering someday.. ;D
