solution to a tiny problem

I have two premier Amals that took "forever" to tickle. After 24 hours of non use I could count to thirty before they would lightly overflow. My solution was to use a short piece of 1/16" rod (I used the back end of a drill bit), tapered one end slightly and pushed it up the center of the roll pin. I used a small c-clamp for the job. If a straight edge is used on the bottom side of the carb the pin is just short of the straight edge. There is no chance of it falling out and it now floods in 5 seconds.
 
If float height OK, then why not just re-position the roll pin the ticker body so it is where you need it?
 
Not necessarily. I've seed different length tickler pins, some BARELY touch the float, so take much longer to flood the carb bowl.
Maybe, but I'm sure you've also seen many people who think float height and fuel height are the same thing and set the float height well below the proper height.
 
I had checked the fuel height by using the sight tube method beforehand. That was correct. It still took forever for the tickler to flood it. Not now. I tried pulling on the roll pin but it was taking a lot of effort with a pair of needle nose pliers and I didn't want to damage anything.
 
Looks like a good solution to me. Fairly simple to do, and it works.

How to adjust roll pin to get more movement on the float when tickling the carb. Get a long thin punch, the steel part of a pop rivet will work, that will fit inside the the roll pin from underneath. Obviously with float bowl removed. Now tap up against tickler button to push it a bit further along roll pin. It's a bit trial and error to get it in the right place but is easiest way to adjust it.

I have had new Amal carbs that needed this doing.
