Hello,

I had trispark ignition on my 750 and I now have pazon. Since i changed the ignition system my smiths electronic tacho stopped (all wiring connections are ok) The tacho still turns on when ignition switch is on and energized, so it's not dead. Just no reading the revs when bike runs.

The pazon ignition system wiring is a bit different than trispark, but it seems like it should be working. I use positive ground. The pazon has a wire from the black box that goes to the negative side of the coil and that is the same terminal that the tacho pulse wire goes on.

Does anyone know if the smiths tacho should be wired differently for the pazon verses the trispark ignition for some reason?

Thanks for the help,
Jerry

Hi Jerry, I'll take a shot.
Are you using the White/Black for the pulse? If so, check for continuity back to the tach.
Make sure the Blue/Red isn't grounding somewhere, leave disconnected.

Hey Mike,

Good to hear from you. I like what you are doing to Glen's old Norton. Now its yours!

I have found the original smiths wiring diagram for the tacho. I do have the white/black as the pulse wire with good continuity etc. All connections are good and it was all fine with the trispak. I think I might have found the issue though. In the original wiring Smiths diagram it says to use the red/blue for the tacho pulse wire, not the white/black. I am going to try using red/blue instead and see if it works. If it does not then I am going to try resetting it by shorting the blue wire.

I will call you soon mate to get caught up.

Cheers

Well that was it. Problem solved. I wired it using red/blue as the pulse wire and all is well in toyland again...

I have no idea why I wired it to the w/b or why it worked.

Cheers all

Because this set of instructions says to use the Black and White, not the Blue and Red.

Not sure why the Pazon would work differently.

The 850 is just about ready to roll.
My creaky old neck, back, body can't deal with the clip on's.
Installed some Euro's. Waiting on a few tid bits to tie it together.
It's a strong runner...We'll catch up later..

Cheers........

That's very interesting. I have a set of digital clocks on my 850 that date back to 2104. I will have to see if I still have that papaerwork to see if its the same.

Ok cheers
