In Daytona for a week of relaxation and this Saturday's ASRA Team Challenge at the Speedway. I brought the SS clone down to have something to putt about on. Got back from a rainy ride today and met a nice British gentlemean, Martin, a BSA guy, who walked over and related a long story, the point of which I waited patiently for.

Seems he started his higher education at a college outside London on 1968. In an electrical class, his lab tech (apparently the professors only deal with theory), Ernie, was trying to invent an electronic substitute for bobweight-and-spring auto advance. Ernie, being something of a science wonk and not a motorcycle type, took Martin's suggestion he take his test rig to the local Triumph dealer, who raced and could get a leg up on the competition with such a device. Turns out the Triumph dealer's name was Boyer and Ernie's last name was Brandsen and you all know the rest.

Nope he was headed down to the zoo on Main St. which I avoid like the plague. Last March, I didn't get within 4 miles of the beach. Much smaller crowd for Biketoberfest.

A German BMW rider was also ogling the old leaker. Wanted to know if I was taking it down to Main St. for the looky-loos. I told him I bought it to ride back and forth from the beach to the Speedway.

A friend of mine started Motec and his engine management systems are now used in Porsches and Ferraris. He is now a big millionaire. However at one stage while he was getting going, his wife was going out doing cleaning to keep the household going. I don't know much about what he did while in the UK, but he told me that by fitting an injector nozzle into the bellmouths of the carbs on a Honda race bike, it lost a second per lap on one of their race circuits. I think the bike was the one Barry Ditchburn rode in the race against Hailwood at Mallory in 1979.
