When I replaced my inner primary case I didn't space it right and the chain was rubbing on the sliding seal and has damaged the metal part of the seal, can this be replace without replacing the whole inner case and if so how do you pull the metal seal part out from the case.

The sliding plates are around $5 each, you need 2. Drill out the spot welds to remove. Clamp the 2 new ones together as they would be installed to drill the 4 holes for fastening. Slap them together on the inner cover with the felt in place and pop divet them together. Done!

Yep not too bad a task done as described. I found wetting the felt helped stuff it in groove. Getting the slider set pretty close to where it needs to be for final chain tension and not stressing it adjusting is part of the art of Commandology science.

I just went and got the new metal seal with felt and the 3 new locking plates for the 3 bolts to put the priamary back on all up $12, so hot after my ride to the otherside of the city, going to have a few beer now as it's a long weekend here starting tomorrow (Anzac day), I am getting good at pulling my primary apart only took just on 30 minutes to have it all apart.

What had happen was the joining link on my chain did the damage to the metal seal, it was sticking out a bit more than the chain links and got caught on the edge of the metal seal, so do you put the ribet head facing from the inside or out side of the case?

I could wait till next week and spot weld the seal plates together if I go back to my old work place.

I told a friend I had to replace the felt seal on my British bike and his face scrunched up in bewilderment . Then he said "felt ? " Then I said "yes". :|

The clutch basket should run closer-closest to the inside of seal than the drive chain to outside of seal so if you Cdo allows this put the rivet heads on the outside though waiting to tack weld for the long term sounds better.

I drilled the old seal spot welds and will wait till next week and spot weld the new one together, it will only take a minute to spot weld 4 times as the spot weld machine is set up permently in the welding workshop, to easy, at leese I have my Thruxton to get around on, but its been 3 weeks since I rode my Norton.

So leather isn't good enough any more?

There probly is not any problem using leather or cork, but the new seal disk comes with a new felt and is so cheap.
