skully helmets

I've been waiting for heads up display. The rear camera is great and could help swooshy on the entrance ramps, lol. Hopefully you can make it a little smaller and even turn it off by voice command for country riding.

Gordon Bennett how awful. One of the reasons for riding a motorcycle is to get away from all the extraneous crap like directions, weather updates, music etc etc. If you want this garbage you might as well just drive a car.

I agree with wakeup. Plus, I reckon it takes longer to move your eyes to observe the 'head-up' rear view image than it would to observe a well positioned mirror. Also your eyes have to adjust over a longer range from long sighted to near sighted. Mirrors on cars were once at the front corner wings, as it was quicker for the driver to observe the rear view image - but not so good when pedestrians collided with them. Moved to the door for safety, not ergonomic reasons. They're a backward step despite the technology.

Its pretty big and first generation to market so I'd hold off till the shield itself projects hologram out ahead or google glass installed. Nothing wrong with a kid feeling like rocket man though and with video data recording G vectors, lean angle and braking times plus GPS 3D mapping over lay while you narrate what's happening as favorite rock&roll in background ... cutting out for the exhaust sounds and wind rush w/o the noise cancellation now and then so can hear the a/c fan too.

My word hobot, what a vivid imagination you have................
Clearly everything you say is possible electronically, but why????????????

So its a cross between . but tech will come..... They stop letting motorcyclist wear leather helmets due to safety of new tech maybe with some refinement these will be the next big change . These are still in beta testing right now so once they have some real world time they will change ....
As for music and other things like that They Can be turned off just like your Car leaving you with a chance of a better all around view of you surroundings :D

"hobots HUD" (measuring of G forces, lean angle and acceleration and braking rates) all of which is measurable at the moment without a HUD, will present you with data, which is useless until you have turned it into information. If you could turn it into useful information, without spreading yourself all over the countryside, what are you going to do with that information? I really can see the benefit in measuring all these things, but not for analysis whilst on the move.
As for "...plus GPS 3D mapping over lay while...." whats that for, so you can see a 3D image of the road you are riding??
cheers

Exactly. I've have enough to do on the road processing information from road surface, rear view mirrors, other vehicles, bends, junctions, road signs, drive ways, field entrances, pedestrians, wild animals etc etc with out distractions from pointless info. No real need to know what the ambient temperature is - your nervous system will tell you if your comfortable or not. No musical distractions either - fine for a car whilst stuck in a jam. If your bored with motorcycling then avoid motorways and/or try going faster. :D

When this stuff is dialed it will be great. You can turn it off or on just like anything else. As for leaving this technology behind with my car, I drive an '82 300 SD and an '85 Westfalia and they don't have such things. Besides I don't ride a bike to leave this stuff or anything else behind. I ride to be on two wheels. I hate mirrors, so the rear camera would be great, If only a bit smaller. Perfect for around town, then turn it off. I suspect it wouldn't be any more distracting than everything else we ignore along the side of the road. I can only imagine what some of you old dogs thought about the Internet when it arrived???

I'm really not sure how this stuff will contribute to your staying in one piece. However if you decide that it's new and shiny, the salesman says its wonderful and everyone's getting it, so you must have it, then go for your life.
I don't understand the "I don't like mirrors, so the rear view camera will be great" comment, why the mirror hate? Do they disturb the organic oneness of your motorcycle?, so 1960s? everyone has them so I don't want them?
For what it's worth I welcomed the internet, I was one of the first at work to get a computer on my desk in 1990, the internet was a considerable benefit to me being able to do my job when it arrived in the mid 90s. Sometimes being an old dog enables you to see through things.
A friend of mine had an expression which went along the lines " I hope you don't get what you deserve", it may be a little subtle for some.
Enjoy!

" I hope you don't get what you deserve" so your wishing harm on other for embrasing a new tech

Absolutely not, I would never wish any harm on anyone, let alone a fellow motorcyclist. As I read that quote ( "I hope you don't get what you deserve") to me it means that this technology is potentially dangerous, and I hope that anyone who uses it does not get hurt by its use.

Anyway, at the end of the day, if you want it, can afford it (in more than monetary terms) then I hope that you enjoy it.

I stand by my position that I think its a device that is a cynical repackaging of known technology to create a new market, it's creators having more to do with marketing than anything else.

Whats this nonsense all about?? Presumptive or projective? Your comments say more about you than anyone else. As for trying to walk the other comment back, nice try. Another one for the block list me thinks....

What exactly do you mean?

If you want to block me then, once again go for your life. If you can't handle having someone not being impressed with shiny new things then doesn't that say more about you than me? Or am I misunderstanding this?
As I said before if you want it, you get it. I'm just trying to bring a little realism to the debate.

My word hobot, what a vivid imagination you have...

I'm not imagining anything as the technology is already here just not in available m/c helmets yet. I've read about this new helmet's electronics and mechanisms and how much bigger, especially in front to allow a projection screen system so think it may get to be a bother to wear after a while and its extra masses might tend to vibrate out of position on head so time to time have to reposition to see well and stay comfy. Flexable transparent displays are coming of age so no projector needed soon. GPS over lay turned on when in doubt would be good to navigate in city freeways w/o glancing off path which can be enough time to have traffic events get in the way. I would not be watching the performance data stream while preforming, duh would turn off or ignore, but would love to see and share the play back with 3D GPS map of the route through Mt's and the displays of G's and lean, mpg and amounts of throttle and brake. Much as I love the wind and motor sounds, when I was living daily on m/c's for a few years in a row - commuting, i'd like to hear some good rock and roll while sipping coffee with a cigarette. On that note I tend to rock car and fish tail bike with throttle to the beats of hard rock on THE Gravel opens for fun and practice saving avoiding crashes, which did save my Lexus from a deer impact on head light once by tossing car mostly side ways on the down beat I was following and then toe heel throttle and brake manically to regain control before fence. I got spun enough so deer collided under R mirror so its hard impact occurred along whole deer flank, embedded fur under trim strip all the way to tail lens but spread force out so didn't damage doors much. Other wise would of taken out expensive grill/radiator. That'd be great video to put out in public with the forces recorded. A nice English accent female voice alerts would be cool.
