So what's the most potent engine version to build cubic displacement wise? 750 to 1007 cc? Modern hot rods that can rev over 10K all aim for big bore and short stroke, but not many Norton engines can live over 8000 for long. I'm going with 920 for 'easy' to find parts and with JS piston/rods should be good to lower red zone now and then. Anywho entertain me with some bickering on this one please.

That sounds a lot like my "if i win the lottery" that's how I'd build mine. I'd go with the whole radiused camshaft and lifters with the DLC valves, behive springs and titanium retainers too. But until then I'm gonna have to make do with mostly stock parts.Cj

This subject is about the basic cake not the fancy icing on top that could apply to any size engine. Its sort of a torque vs rpm type quandry. No replacement for displacement comes to mind. With life ticking and too many disappearing I'm going for my best shot version, as long as it takes or I last. Its fun to have to be careful throttling off idle.

Gday Steve, theres no real subsitute for big cubes, love the low down grunt and the sound is awesome. Two reasons why Ive gone for the 920 RGM kit in my project. Also got the JS rod & Piston kit plus Ed Collins 90 deg Offset crank. I like the technical/theory behind these additions. I probably would have it going by now but I find this forum too entertaining/therapeutic!

Oh rightly Foxy, I was hoping to get some words to think about the big dog barks and strong chain jerking down low. My ole P!! and for a good time Ms Peel would fish tail on take off and snicking 2nd if I got too vigorous. In the "Worlds Fastest Indian" I got a special treat and kick in the seat spikes each time ole Burt took off had to quick back off an instant to let the rear catch up and grip. Also quick traffic passes w/o bother to down shift has great appeal too. Holding breath till comnoz dyno's a few 1007 cc's coming on line this year. I'm sckar't of 920 kicking mistakes though. I ordered a bar switch group with a comp. release lever built in.
