have had a real struggle replacing the air filter and carb boots in the past using various methods but this time installed the filter and front plate first, lubed the carb boots and put them on the carbs first and then slowly rotated them and worked the other groove into the front plate and then turned them so the flat was lined up correctly...went quickly with no cursing this time and the silicone is actually good for the rubber and preserves it from what I've read.
