Hi all. My first post... and I hope they are all positive ones to follow. I’ve just purchased a 50th Cafe Racer, a cancelled order destined for the States. I wasn’t even looking to change my bike (from a Guzzi Cafe Racer that I’ve had from new) but it just happened very quick. The bike is being delivered in a couple of weeks and I’m in two minds about the silencers. The dealer is fitting the cat replacement pipe, but long or shorties? I want the bike to sound like it ought to, it’s purely for a weekend ride. I like the look of the long traditional silencers, but are they a bit more muted compared to the shorties? I see some have drilled out the baffles, which I don’t really want to do on new cans. What’s the opinion? Do the long silencers sound better with the cat removed? Or should I go for the shorties?

Shorties, most go that route for straight thru unrestricted, very few I think opt for long ones ,although Clive may disagree, & u got a bargain to , normal price of like £300 for decat pipe & £800 for silencers for no extra

....long or shorties?
What’s the opinion?

Oh no!
This question on the 961 forum is equivalent to:
"What type of primary lube to use in my 750/850?" on the classic forum.

I'll start;
Long all the way.
Classic style, great sound, and of course, size matters.

I’m having trouble disagreeing with any of you :D
I think Clive has the long OPEN silencers - another factory option - but the Anniversary models came with the long, quiet, pipes and the open shorties. Longer ones have the classic look but if you want the noise and performance, you will need to shell out even more.....

Hate to make your decision more difficult but you may want to take a look at Theil classic reverse cone silencers.
Beautiful, slender, classically proportioned reverse cone silencers.
Expensive, but very nice.

No surprise there then! :(

I agree... so another grand would give me what I want :D

I too spent a little while deliberating and lived with the longs whilst running mine in. Once I got to the 600 mile marker and had the decat pipes fitted I then went for the shorts and don't regret it.

Lol.
By shorties you mean these

Shorties !!. I'm right, anyone who disagrees is wrong. :D

I run decat long open and simply love the sound. However, when I saw the latest limited edition Breiting model with shorties, I thought, that looks good, now I'm getting all Brexit about it, I simply can't make my mind up. I might buy a pair and try them out, or get one of those 2 into 1s like the 'Street'. Damn it, too many choices and not enough conviction!

John,
My Cali 50th came with de cat pipes and long open silencers, just how I wanted.
I guess it isn't as quite as loud as the shorties, but on a long run I find that an advantage.
