I'm going to ship my rear wheel to Buchannan's for new spokes, and I need a box. After bubble wrap I'll probably need 24x24x6 inches of space. Anybody know of a ready made box that'll work for that? FedEx, UPS etc don't show anything in that size and I really don't want to fabricate my own.

Making your own is easy as you will not need a box, unless yours is all in bits. Just go out to your local TV / Fridge centre and pick up free cardboard that they discard, cut one side slightly larger than the wheel, and the other about the excite size. You will need a whole roll of that brown sticky tape to put all the way round etc.

I shipped mine to Don Pender and he sent back from Nova Scotia to where he is and back is a great distance .... I made my box up from discarded cardboard , packed rims in crunched up newspaper and used the clear packing tape to encapsulate entire package ... worked great .... DHL

Auto dealership parts and service departments throw away VAST quantities of large cardboard boxes every day...

I have lots of cardboard boxes that could be cut up. Was hoping to avoid making my own carton.

Dave , once you make your mind up it really kinda easy to get into it , thinking as you work of all the horrid things your wheels are facing , for mine , no damages either way , with your background should be a cinch ...

Yeah, it should be no big deal... I'm just lazy.

I have heavy duty moving boxes from my last move that I could cut down. Also have the box from a big flat screen TV that could be butchered for the task, though I've been saving that to put under the Norton in the garage. If I could have gone to Home Depot and bought something for $10 it would have saved me some effort. <sigh>

No, if you re read my post, I reuse that thick cardboard stuff that those big white goods come into the shops as. It should cost you nothing as they throw these away in a skip. Free recycling!!!!

You can make your own but anyplace that sells moving supplies, Home Depot, Lowes, U-Haul centers, have very heavy duty boxes designed for packing TV sets. I can't remember what thicknesses (6"+) are available.

when you receive your wheels back from Buchannan's you'll be impressed with the way they package them in expanding foam in a double wall box.
