1975 MKIII
The clip holding my shifter shaft dropped out causing the shaft to flop around and leak oil. I removed the old seal figuring it might have been damaged, not taking note of any markings. The seal I took out had a metal O.D. and was tough to remove. The replacement seal that I had was all rubber and will not stay in place in the bore, it is a tight fit but will pop out when I push the shaft in place. It appears that the metal washer and clip might keep the seal in place when every thing is installed. I am waiting for a new clip and seal. In the mean time I am trying to locate a seal with a steel O.D. but I am not having any luck. The all rubber replacement I have seal is marked
17 x 25 x 3
I’m not sure where I got it from, but the bag that it was in had the right part number and the seal looks like the AN picture.
Local auto parts store was no help. So I’m hoping some one might come up with a part number for that size seal with a steel O.D. I have emailed SKF and Timken and I am waking for a response.
Thanks,
Pete
