Hi everybody,
today I've gone to start the bike and felt like something was sliping when I kickstarted. First I thought there was something wrong with the kickstart sistem, but finally the problem was in the primary belt. I've found something like 10 teeth of the belt literalli sheared.
It's a RGM belt and I've done about 1500 Km with this setup. I think belt tension is allright (can turn the belt 80-90 degrees), and so is alignment (no signs of wear on belt sides).
Any ideas?
Thanks

UGh, tight belts bends shafts not tear off teeth. its hard to imagine a normal opperated street commando tearing off 30 mm teeth unless standing hi throttle clutch drop drag launch. Only thing my merger experience suggests is some basket wobble allowed some front side plate wear on the belt edges that let the fiber unravel and teeth tear off even w/o much throttle abuse. The other thing that occurs to me is if case ventilated for decoration and weight loss enough grit got in to rub belt edges raw on front pulley plates. Show the group some photos of the missing teeth drama please but show me close ups of the belt edges where teeth missing and not.

If it is a dry belt system, get with holmeslice on this forum (aka NYC Norton.com). He knows what he is talking about and has sourced a superior quality belt for the application

The last time I saw the square tooth profile belt drive it was when my race mate opened up the primary on his race ATLAS; looked very much the same as the pictures of carnage you show. Not sure who made that particular belt drive but I remembered he said it was designed to run wet or dry - he raced it wet.

That looks like the same make of belt I replaced in my 880 last summer -at 76000 miles. My belt was still not missing any teeth but it had a piece of the backing coming loose and slapping on the inside of the case.

I would bet it has been running too tight. They run too hot when they are too tight. I have never seen any damage from running them too loose. They just jump teeth and polish the inside of the case when they're too loose. Jim

It's a synchroflex belt, as used with the rgm setup. I've ordered the synchroflex genIII, just in case.

I'll install it more loose, as jim states and we'll see.

Thank you all

My mate's Triumph belt did the same thing and it was caused by being to tight. It could also be from a faulty belt maybe ?

RGM's hub expand alot when hot.

To adjust mine, I set it so the front hub would just skip a tooth when kick starting, then I bring it in a bit so that it would not skip. It is into its third season now and the belt and hub look excellent and have not had an issue since.

A 90 degree twist is too damn tight. Before slacking off my setup, my clutch began to fail during a run slipping under load and dragging when pulled.

RGM kit have made improvements since i purchase my kit, but mine works beautifully and i believe in it for long haul.

So, todays word for the wise is "loosey goosey".
