Hello everyone...just looking for a bit of info.

I just purchased a 1972 (?) 750 Commando...basket case...in need of full restoration which should keep me busy for a while.

The serial number is:

20M35152135 on the engine. On the frame I can make out the 351521 portion - which seems like an incorrect number for a 72 and for a 750???

Do any of you guru's know what this serial number means - it doessn't seem to match up with any literature I have.

Just curious...thanks!!!

Paul.

If you read that 20M35152135 as 20M3S 152135 you will get a better result.

Didn't the 1972's start at 200,000 (approx) so it will be earlier than that.

Are you sure you read that 351521 number correctly?
The frame number (along with the prod. month/year) should be stamped on a certification plate riveted to the head stock?

20M3S 152135 would be from late '71 production, although of course it may have been titled/registered as a "1972" model, the '71 series ended somewhere around serial 153???.

A '71 20M3S model should of course have the usual timed camshaft breather and other '71 model features etc..

Thanks everyone...I stand corrected...engine serial number is 20M35 152135 and frame number is 152135. Manufacture date is Sep 71 but it was Licenced here in Canada as a 1972 model.

As you can see I have my work cut out for me:

Here is a picture of a 74 850 that I reststored a few years ago and still enjoy riding:

Yes, "s" not 5. You have your work cut out for U. I like the rear framewell hoop bending stuffage. Bend back cold. Or in your case ,use the FORCE young Luke. :P

Thanks again everyone.

The Serial number on the rgistration is wrong...you are correct...it should be an S not a 5.

Thanks for the advice on the cold bending...I'll do my best.

Paul.
