What is the proper color for the Norton Logo on the rear of the seat for a '69 "S" ? I have seen both silver and gold and was wondering if they switched it up at the factory of if one color was the "correct" color.

I think the color matches the logo on your tank and side covers, so if your tank has a gold logo then so too does your seat.

Most "S" models I have seen have either a solid block Norton logo or Black with Gold outline. I can get an "S" seat with silver lettering but I plan on repainting the bike back to the correct blue metalflake color.

Woops, sorry I forgot that you were talking about the "S" model, they might be different. From what i understand the other commandos match in tank and seat color.

Some previous discussion on this topic at:

My tank was yellow with black lettering. The seat logo wasn't black! :)

Thanks for the link! I guess I should go for the gold lettering....Burton's has an "S" seat with Silver logo but said they are due to get more with the gold.

Jean had a picture here a long time ago with his original S back in 70 or so showing the back of the seat. It was gold. I couldn't remember on mine and got a silver, Mike at Walridge may have the gold covers and he thought they were gold too. They are mostly made by RE Leighton. I think it should match the gold colour in the side panels and the outline on the tank.

Here is Jeans photo, it's hard to see, but certainly is gold. phoenix-rises-again-t5905-360.html?hilit=phoenix#p91185

You may want to browse through the 30 some pages of my 69S rebuild, just search for Phoenix under my handle. There's plenty of info on the S there.
