I have decided to go with a custom leather seat for my project. The aluminum seat I made just dosn't fit with my theme.

I have made a base, talked to the upholstery guy, aquired foam and decided on a general layout.

I am leaning towards a rustic brown leather. In this style of seat,

I have one of these seats on my 850 Norton Wideline Featherbed and it is very comfortable, it looks great as well and when your front end is in the air your arse stays put

I decided on the Kodiak brown leather as seen in the eBay auction above. I am going to have my wife use her NEW Husquvarna Viking Designer Ruby embroidery sewing machine (a $4500 piece of kit, I sourced for $3200, and 3rd upgrade in 10 years) to put the Norton logo on the back of the seat. I might as well get something out of it besides embroidered work shirts. Now to finish up the seat pan, cut the foam and get it all over to the upholstery shop.

At the 1967 Earl's Court Show and for about the firs 200 production bikes, the seat cover was orange. I'd emigrated before production got into full swing, so I don't know what else was offered in 1968 and later. The orange on the show bikes was about the same clolor as the orange in the Irish Republic's flag. There was some debate in the press that the Irish Tourist Board had a part in the developmet funding, as the "badge" on the tank (the infamous green blob) was green and the silver finish on the rest of the bike looked white in certain lighting consitions.
