I am using a copper gasket becasue that is what I've had the best luck with. The last time I had the head off the commando I think I used a smear of copper coat gasket material around the push rod holes, but can't remember for sure. I tried searching the forum and came up with nothing. Can I put the head gasket on plain after heating up red hot and quenching or does it help to put something around the push rod area?

Do note that merely red hot don't make copper wax soft as bright organe-sish-white Cheery red. Fast quench in water tends to work harden by the swift contraction.

I think I need a set of Jim's copper rim glue down sealers. Neat and beats efforts to put groove and wire instead. I'm going to try the silver paint on .020" copper gasket on hi pressure Peel, as past copper coat and copper paint didn't seem to hold up in my few cases.
