Scotoiler Anybody ?

Hello Again , Has anyone used a Scotoiler before ? I like the idea and wondered if someone could chime in with their experiences ?
 
I had one on my air cooled multistrada and always struggled to get it set up right. Always too much oil or not enough, and too much results in splatter over the back end of the bike.
And if riding non sealed roads the outlet gums up.
MIght be me rather than the kit which was at fault but I have gone back to spray cans since moving that bike on.

I'm much more inclined to take stuff off my bikes than bolt stuff on. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I've been lubricating chains for a whole lot of years and it's not a problem. Try it if you'd like and good luck but I'll stick to the old tried and true. Some of todays bikes already have enough equipment that's going to cause problems, be hard to troubleshoot, difficult to find a replacement for or hard to repair. I try to keep things simple. I had bikes from the 1960's with automatic chain oilers from the factory and I ended up disconnecting them due to problems (dumping too much oil). Those of today will hopefully be better. Just an opinion.

I have one on my Tiger 800 and had one on a SV650. I like em. It does take some setting up but once it's set you pretty much just have to keep it filled. Very little fling. However they are ugly and take up room. Don't know where you would put one on a 961 where it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb.
 
I agree with all replies so farTony, a tiger bike with one on all the time & kept topped is fine & u expect to see that accessory on an adventure bike, & the Scott oiler does what it’s says on the tin, but run out & it’s messy when u try getting set again, so on the 961 , only put one on for a mega tour maybe as it spoils the look of the bike to a degree in my opinion,on my 8500 mile tour I did on the 961( that I may of mentioned b4 over 10 weeks, yawn ) I just wiped oil on chain prob every other day & then wiped off excess ,then just had the rear sprocket replaced on the next service when bike milage-was 9,500 Miles

Had one on a Fireblade in the 90s no problem only hassle was the alarm made the battery flat
 
There's a version the oils both sides of the chain. I think it's a newer product. Said to work well once you get the kinks out.

I tried it, didn't think it was worth the effort. The oil migrates to both sides using the single sided version.
 
As I expected - a mixture of experiences. After asking around I decided not to fit one so every couple of weeks I lift the back wheel, use Muc-Off cleaner to totally degrease chain and rear sprocket with brush - it doesn't seem as solventy as some. I then use WD40 dry lube (summertime) and so far all seems good. Low fling and relatively clean. The lube originally on the chain was foul flingy black stuff.
 
I use the wax lube, but only got 7200 miles out of my last sprocket. It may hold onto the sandy crap along the beach road. Maybe I should just oil it.
